I just finished reading Austin Clarke's "The Question." (Fine Canuck novel, set in Toranna.) Now I'm reading Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night." Well, technically, I'm posting on crappity on a Saturday night.

"I'm boring as fuckin' shit," indeed.

I also weeded the front garden again, and watered, and swept and mopped the floors upstairs, and totally (un)decorated my room so now there's almost nothing left in it.

I win!  Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy

I read 3 books this weekend:

The Assignment by Friedrich Durrenmatt
The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches by Gaetan Soucy
and
The Ninth Life of Louis Drax by Liz Jensen.
I'm such a boring fucker. On the rare occasion that someone asks if I've read anything recently, I usually can't remember titles or authors. So it's like "Yeah, but don't ask what, who by, or what it's about.

I spent Saturday and part of Sunday morning reading Saturday by Ian McEwan. I protested in front of an Evangelical church with about 200 other people in the hot Texas heat Sunday afternoon. I think my feet got burned cause I was wearing flip flops. Then came home and rolled my eyes through the The Boogeyman. Tonight's excitement might involve more movie rentals or the start of another book. Lately when I start a book, it's hard to focus on anything else until I finish it. It almost feels like compulsive behavior - almost like that video game sickness where you have to keep playing at least until the next level and then the next one after that, and before you know it, it's 4:00 in the fucking morning and you've got to be at work at 7:30. Yeah, it's a little like that.

That doesn't sound boring to me. (Except for the details about the foot tannage.) Probably cuz I'm boring too. Most recently read Steinbeck's "The Pearl," then his short story collection, "The Long Valley." I'm thinking of picking up William T. Vollmann's most recent thousand pager at the used book shop around the corner. Anyone read it?

I'm totally thrown by the size of his books. I look at his books and I think, "Hmm, is it worth it? By the time I finish one of his, I could've probably read 5 or 6 others." Also, aren't most of his books a part of some series?

I know what you mean, pretty overwhelming. But I remember reading some of his essays in Spin (gawd, is that thing still around?) and liking his work. Hm. I guess the beauty of the most recent book is that it's broken down into way small sections, meaning I could switch back 'n' forth between that and fiction.

That and the fact that I can do a trade on a bunch of books I'm getting rid of, ostensibly getting the Vollmann tome gratis.

Holy fuck, I'm boring as shit.
