What I still find odd is the fact that the spinal fractures didn't hurt nearly as much as my ankle.

The spinal fractures were obviously more frightening. I know I've mentioned it like a million times but...I could not sit up, no matter how I tried - do you know how terrifying that is?

Then a doctor tells me my spine is broken.

I am amazed I've never shat my pants.

I really need to never drink again...but I fucking hate treatment...it's awful. I went to one great place in Merrickville, Ont...but that was expensive. The medicare covered one here (yeah, there's one English government-run detox program here...there are probably hundreds in T.O. and Vancouver)...completely sucks. I don't eat meat, but there is nothing to subsitute for vegetarians...so I was eating nothing but side dishes (essentially starving from lack of protein when my body needed food more than ever)...peas, carrots, potatoes...not much more. I never saw a counsellor (mine was "on vacation")...the conditions sucked, the surroundings were bleak and depressing (Quebec tundra/farmland in winter...woohoo!) ...we were not trusted enough to leave the property (which was the size of the property of a very, very small elementary school...namely because that's where it was housed -  a former elementary school)...all people did was smoke.

We had chores and we had to walk around the building for  15 minutes every day (which felt absolutely absurd). We couldn't go to our rooms until lights out (so we could maybe squeeze in 10 mins of reading a day)...no matter how we were feeling. We had to be up by 7AM...It felt like prison. I lasted like three days there.

Actually, I've been in prison (overnight, once), and it was about 2000% freer.

The last time I was in the hospital they referred me to this place called Toxico.

Problem with that place is...well, the infamous Motorcycle Mama lives there (her father is the cook).

I don't believe it would be too healthy to be around her again.

So...it looks like I go it alone and hope the clonazepam helps in some way.

I haven't drank in days and I still feel like total garbage.

Started reading Ship of Fools by Richard Russo. Although he lifted his title from Katherine Anne Porter and has the same name as an already successful author, Richard PAUL Russo's book is a pretty strong effort. I've gone from wondering if I'd wasted a whole $5 on a shitty book to totally being pulled in. It's a pretty creepy story.

The ship of fools thing is an allegory that has been in use for a long time in Western literature and art.

Here's an example: Ship of Fools (German: Das Narrenschiff, Latin: Stultifera Navis) is a satire published 1494 in Basel, Switzerland by Sebastian Brant, a conservative German theologian.

Not to go back to a bad trip, but I'm down a bunch in the Market. When it first started dropping, my emotions got away from me, but I'm kinda numb to it now. I have hope that I'll be ok eventually, but I've made a couple of awful decisions. Sometimes I'm able to allow myself to find it a little amusing.

Ship of Fools was pretty good. Not perfect, but overall, I enjoyed it much more than that Mieville book. It turned out to be a real page turner. I read somewhere that he's writing a sequel, so that's kinda exciting.

A Deepness in the Sky was great. So much better than A Fire in the Deep. It's a pretty impressive achievement, IMO.

Adam Carolla was on Planet Money recently and I was surprised how convincing that goon was in his argument that classic cars are the safest investment there is. They apparently just about never go down in value. Preserve their condition and their prices only get steadily higher.

I guess if you have a place to store them, it could be a fun way to invest money for the already pretty well off.
