so anybody listen to lou reed's new york album recently...some funny old references in there i had completly forgot about...

on a side note i was actually in nyc when i first heard that cd...1989 (1990?)...friend's apartment in hell's kitchen i remember being high as a kite and digging it...and then there was that line about

"I was sitting drumming thinking thumping pondering the Mysteries of Life

Outside the city shrieking screaming whispering the Mysteries of Life"

...and my head exploded!

not recently.

recently I've been listening to the Jam's Sound Affects.

on vinyl.

stan said his kids have discovered his old turntable
and have been freaking out over it. I imagine like the monkey people in 2001 when they see the monolith.

saturday night i was listening to Duke Ellington on Vinyl.

It must of been my grandmother's...i pictured her sitting there having a hi-ball and a carlton 120 listening to this.

Then i realized when my mom was my age my grandma was already dead 6 years...died of cancer when my mom was not even 30...

then i got sad.

then i passed out.

hey bamah...know you're a costello fan...where would you suggest i begin my listening experience with him?

I think i mentioned i caught him on the austin city limits and really dug it...i loved the distored raunchy sound that was being purged from his guitar.

if i were you, i would start with "this year's model" or maybe "armed forces". that'll give you the best early costello vibe. then if you wanna jump ahead and get acquainted with more recent costello, go get "when i was cruel". it is guh-reat.  i think you'd dig it.

j-raz is also a good one to consult aboot this- what would you suggest, kid?

The Jam rocked!  My favourite Jam record is Setting Sons.  It's kinda lame to  admit it, but Paul Weller was of the reasons why I bought a Rickenbacker 330...
