i was thinking of venturing out at lunch and picking up a sonic youth cd.

Recently i had a listen to Murray street and with my new record player i was able to listen to this old album i picked up years ago...blue cover photo of band...burning spear...maybe from 82.

But that's as far as my sonic youth experience goes and this entity that i like to call "spaceship jim" has recently touched down in that land called Curieoz City.

Any reccomendations? From all i read Daydream nation seams like good choice.

My take on Sonic Youth:

Bad Moon Rising: **** (but my favorite)
EVOL: *****
Sister: *****

Daydream Nation: **** and overrated. I believe this album is most popular because of its "epic" title. Its production (to me) is very dry (nothing like Sister or EVOL) and that sound does not do me good for lengthy songs (like poorly produced Neil Young albums).

Dirty: **** Some weak songs, but manages popiness with experimentation. This became the SY sound.

Goo: *** Overall pretty terrible...some great songs, but not so great.

Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star: ** The crashing of the pop leanings of SY. Some great songs..but very few.

Washing Machine: *** Regains some ground...but  Renaldo's beatnik shit becomes unbearable at times (even in good songs).

A Thousand Leaves: ***** SY gets all of their shit together again. The weirdness and the pop.

Murray Street: * Boring shit

Thurston Moore's  Psychic Hearts was really good.

riddle me this, rosa:  why isn't there a Scientific Canadian magazine?

It would be pointless and expensive.  Dumb question.

Missed it. I was oot doing that other quintessentially Canadian activity: curling. Or maybe it was drinking.
