Good morning!

That nursing home whose operating manager hates me is having their state certification this week. They had me stay all day yesterday looking things over and I had to be here at 6 am this morning, "just in case."

So far, I am alternating 20-40 minute naps with brief periods of walking the halls smiling and being friendly, so as to be visible.

I wish I knew the name of the person who beat me in that spelling bee. I'd internet stalk the shit out of them until I found all their typos.

Are there any decent comics anyone knows of that are geared toward four or five year olds? Or at least that have superheroes with a minimum of guns or pages and pages of fighting. When I was a kid Marvel had some comics they called Easy Reads or something like that. They also had these little comics paired with records so you could listen along. Anything like that on the market now? Yes, I could google, but I figure people who are going to comic shops might have some idea of what's good. C's interest in comics has gone on long enough that I've decided to start getting her some comics on the regular.

I knew she was funny, and self-effacing from reading interviews, seeing her at the in-store in Dallas.

We never had no spelling bees.

We did have dictee, once we started learning French in school, but not quite the same thing.

I think Playdough (edible) and/or other types of modelling and craft materials are perfect for three-year-olds.

When the youngest grandkids are over, my mom gets a lot of mileage out of glue, crayons, stickers (including the crappy ones that charities send you as a "gift," like mailing labels), sparkly shit, popsicle sticks, the foil wrappers from "fancy" candy (those are particularly popular), cotton balls, coloured paper, scraps of fabric, etc. Kids love making shit, and gluing shit (OMG, they super-love that) and when they're still really small you can get away with using scraps of stuff around the house. Or you can buy kits, too, and supplement them with stuff around the house.

My mom used to make home-made Playdough (poor). Even more edible than the store-bought kind.
