You know what was really fucking bad? Without Men. It's an indie based on James Canon's novel, Tales from the Town of Widows & Chronicles from the Land of Men. The book, I am told, was a feminist/pro-gay magical realism work about a Latin American town that becomes an all-woman utopia when guerrillas forcibly conscript their men.

The movie is a sexist, candy-colored sex comedy with a bunch of lesbian exploitation and Eva Longoria that looks like it was shot to be an extended dream sequence on Depserate Housewives.

Worst film of the year, and not in an interesting way, either. We only even let the thing play out of stubbornness.

I'm sure I'll see this, because my wife will want to see it, because she likes Julia Roberts and JR is chewing scenery in this one.

I never expected Tarsem to make a comedy.

Are we sure that's a comedy? It's not funny.

By the way, Karen... today's title (which I will admit was kinda weak) was supposed to be a riff on the scene from Airplane! where Peter Graves' creepy Captain Oveur asks the little boy visiting the cockpit, "Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" Well, that, and the recurring discussion about 13 Assassins.

ah, right.

I apologize because I know I have posted this like four times, but I am physically incapable of being around a conversation about Peter Dinklage without posting this clip, which is one of the funniest fucking things I have ever seen.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/dQJLjYoQWB0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/dQJLjYoQWB0</a>

You can post that a thousand gazillion times if you want. I sent the clip to my boss, saying that "it was the first thing I'd ever seen him in and this is why I heart Peter Dinklage" and we both agreed we'd do him. (Not together, but I can't speak for Perry.)

Never heard of it. But I'll be sure to avoid if I stumble across it somewhere in my house (because I never go out)

Actually, the one time I have mid-week plans, in advance, and OUTSIDE of my house, to see Camp Radio (featuring Scott Terry from Werbo, Flecton, etc. -- hi, Savannah!!) and hang with them cuz they're staying here, I get an invitation from the Canadian Film Centre to go to a screening/talk with Gale Anne Hurd (producer of Walking Dead, among other things) at the exact same time. (The Camp Radio thing is an early showcase gig.) Figures.

Trying to figure out how I can be both rock chick and nerd at once...

I think that Without Men movie was the straw that broke the camel's back with me downloading everything and just picking something to watch more or less randomly. I've become more vigilant about only watching stuff I have reason to believe will be good.

Finally found something to do on Twitter other than simply waste time.

I can "follow" comedians who post eighty million thousand tweets a day!

Tom Scharpling recently did an interview w/ Greg Cartwright (among others) if anyone's interested.

Kathleen Edwards is on Letterman tonight (new album released today) if anyone cares. Unfortch, Jim Bryson couldn't do it this time, as he's setting up some sort of home birthing pool or some such. But do know Kitty and some of the dudes in this line-up, and the songs I heard a few months back sound a little more her, a little less homages to her influences, from what I recal,l, so could be cool.

Jeff, I don't know how many times you've posted that Dinklage clip either, but I watch it every time.

That's probably even a funny scene, just on the page. But when you put Peter Dinklage in it, with his delivery, and with his offbeat charm/charisma thing making him by far the most interesting person in that scene, it really is a home run.

Wikipedia is blacking out for 24 hours to raise awareness about SOPA.

Google is putting a black bar across their logo too.
