Mentioned this in yesterday's thread,  but holy fuck, put Tyrannosaur on your list of things to see. Kind of like a Mike Leigh movie. Great acting.

Morning y'all!!!

took myself a 4 day MLK holiday.   Lots of fun.   The boys decided to spend their christmas money on paper and paints and they got all artsy fartsy.    The theme was painting scenes from their nightmares.     Its pretty creepy stuff.

Saw HUGO last night.     It was pretty damn great.    I was afraid it was going to be a self-engrandizing "movies are the language of the human soul" type thing.     But in the end, the fact that the George Milies was a filmmaker was secondary.   It was really mostly about finding any way in which you can make yourself useful to the world.

Pretty sure E____ liked it too.    As soon as the credits came on at the end, he said loud enough for the whole theater to hear  "Good job, Martin!!!"

I'm looking forward to seeing that. But since Matilda had a recent bad experience with a 3-D film making her nauseous (she's in that minority, I guess), we aren't really doing 3-D anymore. And so, we'll probably just wait for the internets.

The 3D was not necessary at all, but it was gorgeous.   It'll be just fine on TV.

And yes, not for those sensitivie to 3D.  Lots of swooping helicopter shots through Paris and long crane shots inside a clock tower.

I am mentally formulating a glowing 10 out of 10 review for Tyrannsoaur for later.

Holy FUCK, that was good. Like a Mike Leigh movie, but more immediate and weirdly redemptive.

There is a flashback sequence where he renders some hand-colored film reels from WWI in 3D.   It is very jarring and brought what can feel like ancient history right up to the present.    (kind of like some of the recently released color photos of Depression era America did).

You've already put it on my list.    I lurve Mike Leigh, and haven't seen anything in that style in too long.

Apparently there's only one theatre in Memphis that has an proper 3D projector (they're still showing Hugo I think).. And it's the Cinema Showcase (used to be the Fare Four).. This is somewhat ironic since it's such a shitty place.

Actually I haven't been there in years. Maybe it's awesome now..   All I  know is John Biefuss saw Hugo there and said he'd never really experienced a 3D movie the way you're supposed to until then..   said it makes a huge difference..

RIP Dan Evins, founder of the Cracker Barrel.

Your food mostly sucked, but it let us avoid Burger King on many a southern tour.
