My electric H2O heater is busted.  It doesn't heat, and it leaks.  I have to get it replaced.  It's gonna cost something like 800 bucks.  Shit.

Sorry dude.      Can't stand when those big ticket problems take you by surprise.

so, I've been going through a lot of old drawings and pages and whatnot, looking for more stuff to put on my tumblr page.. most of what I found is pretty old so I probably won't post it. BUT I will share some of it here..
This is the first page of a comic I started back in the late 80's..  It was kind of a Philip k Dickian thing set in a future where the Earth had completely flooded.. I was so ahead of the curve on that one..  A few years later everyone was doing it..
I think I showed promise but this is not really very good work..

I think it looks pretty cool.  Tripp, as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to comics, and particularly Sci-Fi comics, the story is at least as important as the art work.

I agree, which is why i gave up on it..  I had a lot of 'cool' ideas..  not enough of a story.

Here's my humble two cents regarding education philosophies: any approach that is one-size-fits-all is bullshit.  Everyone learns differently and at different speeds.

When I came to Canada, my firts 5 months in the Quebec school system were spent in a language immersion class: the classes were small, no more than 15 students, the curriculum was simplified and the emphasis was on learning french, with math and other stuff thrown in.

We could learn at our own pace, and we were tested whenever we wanted, as often as we liked.  I came from the Portuguese system, which was one-size-fits-all and pretty terrible, thinking I was a dumbass. For instance, I sucked at math.

Well, in those five months in the immersion class, I went from simple arithmetic to complicated algebra.  I remember doing the equivalent of an entire year of math education in three weeks.

After those 5 months, I went back to the regular school system, and I was bored out of my skull.  But this time, I knew how to study, so I kept being a good student.  I went from thinking I was a dumbass to "hey, I can do this" in five months.

I watched most of Captain America last night. I got too sleepy and decided to finish tonight to do it justice. But unless they totally blow it in the last 45 minutes it's going to get a pretty hefty thumbs-up from me. Somehow I thought it was going to take place in the present day and be an explosion-fest and be lame rather than a well-paced period piece with pretty carefully drawn characters. I never really read Captain America when I was a kid, aside from the stray issue or two, and didn't follow any of the trailers or leaks or anything, so I went in blind and was pleasantly surprised. I also have the Blu-Ray of Thor at home waiting for me.

Glad you're digging it.

We watched Being Elmo this weekend. It's a delight. Just a happy, upbeat story about a wonderful man who wanted to do a wonderful thing, then worked hard his whole life to make sure it happened, so it did. It's short and happy. Recommended.
