I never said Spielberg was an idiot. And Jeff, classicism usually refers to, in the arts, an admiration for older forms to the point that the artist seeks to imitate the older model. I actually was agreeing with you, in a sense: Spielberg is a classicist, he likes to imitate american cinema of the so called golden age of Hollywood. As I grew up watching those kinds of movies, I find his modern take on them kind of boring, for the most part. That's why I jokingly said that by "classic" you actually meant "old fashioned".
