We're trying to put together the money/paperwork to file for Tilda's citizenship before the end of the winter.

Assuming she's approved, life is good. If she's not... Well, shit... I don't know. Guess we move to Romania.

Did I miss something? Didn't she get citizenship last year or something? Or was that just Green Card - and what's the difference in terms of being able to work, rights, etc.? (Serious question.) I hate that it takes so long to get into your country. I may as well break up with Ryan now.
She got her green card in Summer of '08. Three years later (since we're still married; people who split from their American spouse wait 5 years) she is eligible to file for citizenship.

We still owe some taxes for one year. So we have to pay thosr before she can file.

But are the rights of citizens taken more seriously than folks with just a green card? I'm still trying to figure out whether ultimately I try to find an employer to sponsor me (though I have no special skills), or get hitched or what. I know I've blathered on about it before but just can't keep doing nothing. I know someone (Canadian) who got her Green Card about 10 months after moving to the US (Chicago) and getting hitched. Hm. We were going to look into consulting with an immigration lawyer (about $5k, and I *have* been saving for stuff like this, starting with my xmas bonus), but you have to set up appointments and junk so of course we couldn't get anything happening when I was there last...  It all seems so futile and depressing

I know HBO brought the hammer down on Bored to Death (and Hung, and some other show I can't remember) in December, but this party for fans of the show sounds like a genuinely thankful way to go out for the creator...

If got the new super-amazing laptop set up to download movies and shit... but still need to be able to unpack the files. Hm. Hey, do you know if I can just "transfer" my existing WinZip/WinRAR from my old computer, since I paid for that shit? (Guessing yes, but don't know how.) Same question for anti-virus software... Gawd, I'm incredibly tech-unsavvy. I guess I could contact Norton, WinZip folks but why do that when I can let Jeff frustrate me here with answers instead?   Wink

Citizenship is permanent. Green cards are... permanent-ish. If Tilda gets her citizenship, she can live here forever and never file another piece of paperwork. Her green card requires expensive fees, tiresome paperwork and fingerprinting, and can be non-renewed if some USCIS agent sees something they don't like.

Hung is cancelled?  Too bad.  Wifey and I watched the first two seasons.  We like.

You could write the people you bought that WinZIP/WinRAR thing from, Karen, and ask if they can give you a code to let you install it on a new machine... You have a PC, right?

But honestly, the WinRAR demo that's on download.com "expires" but never stops working. Just use that, and never worry about it again.
