Louis CK's experiment with self-distributing his special is a success. He's sold 200,000+ downloads at $5 a piece.

That's $1 million.

$250,000 went to pay back the cost of production.
He paid $250,000 in bonuses to his staff.
He gave $280,000 to charity.

He still made $220,000, which is probably considerably more than he'd have been paid for say, a Showtime special.

I heard him on Fresh Air and I thought he told Terri Gross that tickets for the concert already covered production costs, so those numbers confuse me.
