remember how whenever a bill was passed that Bush didn't agree with 100% he would issue a "signing statement" essentially voiding whatever line/phrase/section he disagreed with and/or replacing with his "interpretation" of the omitted part, in some cases changing the meaning  of the law entirely?  (he did it over 160 times, much more than any other president)  at this point in his administration, Obama has issued about 10 signing statements, but it appears he's reserved his most important one for the current controversial NDAA (national defense authorization act). specifically the portion that deals with the detainment of so-called suspected "terrorists".   maybe the veto was not necessary after all.  keeping fingers crossed to see how this plays out, but this looks promising.

That would be a great xmas present, but from everything I heard he's not objecting to the notion of indefinite detainment, he only wants more executive control over it.      (blech)
