Got news on the job front: I didn't get it.  I was expecting not getting it: if the news were good, they would have contacted me sooner.  They took someone with "a more varied field experience."  Oh well...

It's a really silly reason, by the way.  They were hiring people to teach a lowly petrography class.  It's like saying "we won't hire you to teach arithmetic because we found someone who knows more calculus than you do".
