Ok, so Air Canada sucks sometimes, and a lot of people complain about the airline, but...sometimes they do interesting things.

Air Canada has announced the jury for its annual enRoute Film Festival, naming Canadian film industry luminaries and actors to the panel. Directors Adam Egoyan (Chloe) and Jean-Marc Vallee (Young Victoria), producer Don Carmody (Chicago) and actors Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage) and Molly Parker (The Road) will evaluate 21 selected shorts for film-fest prizes.

Accolades include Best Short Film, Achievement in Direction, Achievement in Cinematography, and Achievement in Animation. The winners of each category get a trip for two to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France and the winner of the grand prize gets $5,000.

The festival showcases the work of up-and-coming Canadian talent – those submitting films must have been in a film studies program or training from September 2009 or later. All 21 films are currently available to Air Canada passengers on the airline’s in-flight entertainment system. The winning films will be screened for free at Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto in November.

That piece doesn't say how long the films are screening, but... I'm flying Air Canada over Labo(u)r Day weekend, so maybe I'll get to check some of it out.

Our newest client is a composer for film/television (the only composer we rep). She just finished on Mary Harron's next film, The Moth Diaries, so I'm angling to get into the premiere at TIFF, as my opportunity to hang with Scott Speedman since he no longer frequents the coffee shop near my house.

We've been trained to think, "Sure I could just smash the window of a sporting goods store and loot myself a free baseball bat, but then I'd have to put on pants." We hope this page was brought to the attention of London police. This gives them a full four or five days before everyone who selected ground shipping is fully armed. Unless the rioters shelled out the 75 bucks for Amazon Prime and the free two-day, in which case, God help us all.
