just saw X-Men First Class..    possibly the best Comic Book Movie ever.  Not kidding.
If I had any complaint it would be that Beast looked slightly goofy but whatever..  Fassbender really does play Magneto like it's an old James Bond movie..  and you come to realize early on that some of the characters have known each other a lot longer than you thought..
I was hoping for a psi-war between the Professor and Emma..  didn't quite happen.. BUT they nailed the finale.. A lot of characters, a lot of fighting, and finally a proper aerial battle between characters that can fly... LOVED IT.

Dan, there's a review of China Mieville's new novel Embassytown...in this weekend's NY Times Book Review.  Looks damn fascinating.

Cool!  The fun thing about Mieville is that he can write more ideas in a chapter than some authors write in entire books.  But sometimes he gets carried away and he goes over the top, to the point that he becomes nearly incoherent.  If you like monsters, you'll like Perdido Street Station.

I'm not sure how much experience I have with monster novels...other than in SF.  Star Beast.  I guess aliens can be monsters.

It's interesting, the quote in the review when Mieville said he was in the business because of the monsters and that plot was an inconvenience to him.

I'm very curious what this man's idea of a monster novel is.

we watched Your Highness last night.. WTF.? That was freaking hysterical..  ( if you used to dig on any sword and sorcery flick that ever aired on Cinemax in the 80's.)  (even if you didn't.. thumbs up)

Some lady in an SUV almost smashed into me and S____ in my car.. She was pulling onto the street while TEXTING.. I leaned on the horn and she had to slam her brakes  to keep from hitting us. At the stop sign I flipped her off and in the mirror I could see giving me the 'whateverrrrr' hands...  I gesticulated  texting at her then she did karate chop hands back... ??   I did the 'whaaaaa.?'  hands..  S____ then stuck her hands out the window holding her  cel and re-enacted the texting..  I didn't see her response.

At Charleston airport waiting for a flight home that's been delayed till at least midnight, thanks to a storm in the area. Just caught last bit of the basketball game, standing outside an airport bar with a ton of people cuz it was packed inside, so couldn't hear anything but the excitement was palpable. I'm only a championship fan.
