I ran across this odd little movie on the torrents last night and started watching it. Trolljegeren. It's pretty awesome, actually. It's a low-budget Norwegian horror movie of the faux found footage type. Student filmmakers go into the woods to shoot some stuff about bear hunting. They end up stalking a guy they think is a poacher. Turns out he's not after the bears at all. He's after what's really killing the bears: trolls. It sounds goofy as shit, because trolls aren't part of our horror culture, but they are part of Norway's. It's actually really well done. Hidden little gem, from what I've seen so far. I only wish I hadn't started it so late so I could have seen it all at once.

Anyway, here's the trailer:

I Googled it and found out Del Toro's Trollhunters is an unrelated Dreamworks animation film he's making, aimed at preteens  I wonder how similar it will be.

actually, I'm really looking forward to that cause it's based on the best Superman comix of all time. No hyperbole.
If you've never read it (it's 12 issues) seek it out...

the basic premise is that Superman finds out he's going to die so he goes about getting his affairs in order and solving as many of the world's problems as he can before the end. Really really good stuff. Wildly imaginative..

Bobby got a Les Paul apparently.

A Gibson les paul?

What guitar Bobby gets is none of my business, but I'm done with the Gibson corporation.  Their quality control is dismal: I have tried out brand new Gibson guitars that were over 3 000 bucks with sharp frets and dead notes.  You have to go through a large number of them until you find a good one.  On top of that, according to Glassdoor.com, Gibson comes out as the worst place to work with only a 3% CEO approval rating. Some really harsh comments by current and former employees.

News article:

Gibson reviews at Glassdorr.com:

http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Gib...iews-E6869.htm

And Gibson is under under federal investigation for alleged use of illegal rainforest timber from Madagascar.

This shit is all over the guitar geekery place I sometimes hang out at.

There are other companies making excellent Les Paul type guitars, and at a better price too, so fuck Gibson.

Is there discrimination against conservatives in social science academia?

I'm gonna say no and cop a comment I found on MetaFilter to do it. "The reason that there are very few social conservatives in the social sciences is the same reason that there are very few young earthers in geology: the findings of the disciplines involved directly undermine conservative ideology. (Same goes for economic history and the Chicago School). Conservative people will either select out or, if they are being honest about their research, become less conservative."

it's hard to convey how weirdly awesome this comic was but it's the kind of thing that a little kid could understand it and at the same time a nuclear physicist would be struggling to wrap his head around some of it.

As I read somewhere, reality has a "liberal" bias.

Watched The Runaways last night.     I'll agree with most of your reviews.   Not bad at all and some fun visual moments.     The manager dood, Kim, really made the movie for me.   creepazoid in a very entertaining way.
