I was having a hard time with the withdrawal yesterday and I was thinking about The Patch and other alternative nicotine devices when I realized I still had a pack of smokes in my coat pocket. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect or if I was actually getting a little nicotine but I found that dragging on an unlit cigarette worked pretty good.

How do the engineers who design gas pumps decide what is the ideal number of times you have to squeeze the handle on the pump before something happens?

I guess it needs to be often enough that it's funny without being so often you think the pump is broken.

Also, why is the speed fuel pumps at still tied to how fast pennies go by? For the five people in North America who still pay cash, so they can try ans make their total out to an even amount? FUCK 'em. Gas costs nearly 4x what it did when I was 16 and it takes 4x longer to pump.

When we're past peak oil, and gas costs 30 times what it used to cost, it will take 30 times longer to pump!  Think about it! Car owners will spend more time filling up than driving.
