I have that Stone Roses first record and I like it. I think it's a very good record. But then again, I grew listening to silly brit bands...
I won't back down

The olympics are EVIL. No, the Olympics are FUCKING EVIL.
13 Good Reasons to Hate The Olympics (Australia 2000 Summer Games)
Why I hate the Olympics
WHY I HATE THE OLYMPICS
Anyway, there was a pretty good George Orwell essay on the Olympics and nationalism that I read when i was a teenager that pretty much open my eyes about the damn thing... And all the corruption scandals, doping scandals, silly flag waving and greedy corporate sponsorships haven't helped...

i also ingested the output of many silly british bands in my formative years, danny, but i guess i was beyond the point of appreciation by the time the stone roses appeared. once the smiths broke up, and the cure became (even more of) a joke, and echo and the bunnymen lost their brilliance, i turned my eyes back to the homeland. that must have been around 1987, eh?
adore me.

Ah, the Stones Roses were very british and very pretentious. But I just have to listen to Waterfall or Don't Stop to forgive them... Their lyrics are often pretty dumb too. But those guitar hooks and that tone! I
bloody
luv it!

There's a chunk of the Cure that I adore for it's cheese (Wendy was a big fan before I met her). I don't listen to it or own any of it...but there are a few songs I really liked. Before they became a pop parody of themselves (already a parody).
I love Siouxsie and the Banshees. Pretty much own all of it. I've got stacks of records, CDs...I think I have some posters kicking around (they were Wendy's) and even used to wear a Siouxsie t-shirt (also Wendy's) quite a bit.
I know this is not cool, but I am not cool and do not care to be.
For some reason I get a real kick out of Siouxsie's often pompous lyrics and her exaggerated English accent.
It helps that I think Budgie is probably the most creative rock drummer I've ever heard. Huuuuuge influence on my sound (whatever that means). In the early days of my learning how to drum, all I did was learn Banshees drum beats...so distinctive and tom-heavy...genius drummer that Budgie.
I think I'm going to put on Kaleidoscope.

Never heard the first LP of Stone Roses, I only heard the second one because my friend owned it. I couldn't stand all that quasi-Brit invasion shit that came out on the scene during the "grunge/alt." years. Which is funny since I gobbled up everything Seattle at the time. Well, mostly Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and even some Alice In Chains.
Damn.
Anyway, I remember all that crap...Charlatans, Stone Roses, Manic Street Preachers, Elastica, Suede, The Verve, Ocean Color Scene, .......Radiohead............the whole Blur vs. Oasis farce.
Actually, I kinda liked a number of Blur songs. And at one point I thought I might like Radiohead...then I realized how fucking pretentious and autoinfatuated they were with themselves...and they were terribly overrated and Thom wrote wrecthed lyrics.

I guess i don't know the Stone Roses.
The name seems to indicate suckage though.
They're sort of like Oasis if they worshipped Zeppelin instead of the Beatles.

Uh? I don't agree! I think that they're kinda like a cross between sixties psychadelia and dance music, at least that's how they sound in their first record. I've never listened to the second, as I heard it sucked...
Comparisons to Oasis are unwarrented!

Yeah, I was just going to say the Led Zeppelin thing was a new development on the second album.
1st album is more like the Happy Mondays or something, I think.
