As I've gotten older, I've found that my sense of humor has become much more cerebral.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- James Stillman Rockefeller, the oldest-known U.S. Olympic medal winner and the former head of the bank that became Citigroup, died Tuesday. He was 102.

Damn, he should get a medal for that.

The man probably decided he couldn't live through another olympic season...

Have there been any albums you didn't think much of, and then a lot later thought was actually pretty dang good?

Bands in general like the Decemberists or Death Cab or even Elliot Smith whom I only liked when others were covering him. Um, old Flaming lips simply because they were so horrible live then outta nowhere they were great and I started going thru the older albums.
I could go on and on.

I remember liking Black Flag at 9 and the Minutemen but not Minor Threat until years later.
I remember not liking early MBV until Feed me with your kiss EP.

Early MBV was terrible.  I had their 1rst record, but I traded it for something else.

Back to the topic - I've had that 1st Stone Roses for a while. I've "tried it" a number of times over the last 4 years, but it wasn't until a few days ago that I found myself really enjoying the majority of the album. I also had the same experience with Graham Parson's Grievous Angel. I've owned a copy of that for a pretty long time, but it never did much for me. Then I listened to it again a few weeks ago and liked it a bunch.

I had a similar early experience w/ that record.  I've loved Flying Burrito Brothers for a long time, but I just couldn't get into solo GP for some reason.  So I got rid of that GP/Grievous Angel disc.

I saw it the other day in the budget bin and I was very tempted to get it, because I felt like I would finally understand it...

When XO by Elliott Smith came out, I thought it was pretty dang good.

But I dug it out again recently and now I'm pretty sure it's a masterpiece.

Too bad aboot Figure 8, eh?
