It's a very good sequel. Not quite up to par with American Gods, but that book was extra good.

My big plan for this weekend is making a big mess of tamales for my family.

Instead of traditional masa tamales I'm going to try Bobby Flay's recipe which uses pureed fresh corn and cornmeal.

For the filling I'm using Emeril's carnitas recipe (pork deep-fried in lard with orange zest, lime zest, and garlic...totally sick but nice and crispy the way carnitas should be [looking at Chipotle]).

For the sauce I'm going to stew some nice early girl tomatoes I just got at the farmers market in enchilada sauce and sofrito.

On the side my famous refried black beans (jack cheese, salsa verde, tomatillos, jalapeno).

To wit: Monday, I watched Tampopo. Wednesday, it was Two-Lane Blacktop, which I'd never seen. So in the opening credits, I see James Taylor as "The Driver" and Dennis Wilson as "The Mechanic" and was convinced it was THAT James Taylor and Dennis Wilson and my roommate claimed not. Then immediately upon seeing their faces, I knew I was right. JeffWerbo says "maybe." Until I looked it up on IMDB. Dumbass. How do you not know James Taylor's/Dennis Wilson's faces? Even if you never cared about them?

only 94 in Memphis right now.. Usually it is much hotter than this.. I have a feeling it's going to be delayed. Like, it'll jump up in August then stay there til October then it'll just turn into Winter overnight..
