I read a lot of stuff on food, but not history per se. I reckon it all started with breast milk, maybe that ill-fated apple was next.

Jane Jacobs gets into it a bit in "Dark Age" ahead, her argument being that food and food production is culture-based (so we're fucked, basically), and outlines agrarian communities and into current processing, etc. Stuff on ancient Mexican food preparation in Omnivores Dilemma (in the large section on corn), but again that's about specific culture. Are you trying to separate food/eating from culture? What are you looking for, specifically?

Season 4 of Mad Men tonight. This traffic jam better not delay me too much. I believe roomie has whiskey at home (like I need that on a school night) for the occasion. Woot?

Hey y'all! I'm in San Diego, crappitying from the beach. Was up too late with my friends who are playing at Johnny Rad fest down here- now am about to go get my hair chopped by my favorite gay in town. THEN, Johnny Taylor will be here and we're going to his art show. THEN going back to the club tonight. Yay for fun times!
Did you have a good time? How was the turnout for the art show?
we had a BLAST! the turnout for the art show was amazing. johnny thought it was going to be super lame, but we got there and the gallery was in a great part of town, they were playing cool as shit music, and the other artists in the show were awesome. quite a pleasant surprise. we had so much fun down there. it was the first time i've gotten all the way into the ocean since i've been out here. i was glad that JT made me quit whining about how cold the water was. fun and FUN.
if you'll oblige me, i'd like to share my haircut with crappity now. i think it is my most favorite haircut ever. i don't have a shot from the front yet- this was one my friend took a little bit ago out on my patio. this is how it looks AIR DRIED. air dried, y'all! i feel so...me now. i love that story.
You look fabulous, Bamah.

Hey, can anyone recommend me a good book on the history of food?
Why not try
The History of Food
and then let us know if it's worth reading?

Actually, maybe I'll start looking for that book. It sounds like something I'd like.
