i haven't gone out in weeks.   drank some wine with dinner a couple nights but that's about it recently. well, there's the shrimp. still plenty o that.  but it's a back porch only experience for now, at least until the parents and in-laws break the habit of checking in on baby unannounced.

Hey, I'm still at work. I was just trying to be funny. I don't take hits before work anymore because the shrimp in these parts is a little too good these days. It almost impossible to just catch a little buzz. You're either completely clear-headed or stoned to the bone. There ain't no between anymore.

speakin of my back porch... during a shrimp break yesterday, my neighbors kept shooting squirrels out of the trees while we were out there.  if i had any less tolerence for assholery, i'd have called the cops.  once madeline is playing in the back yard, i won't hesitate at all.

Gonna cook a big old stew now.

crimini, celery root, sweet potatoes, fennel, peppers, parsnips, red & green lentils, tomatoes, corn.  That's a good start.

Happy belated to Dan. Happy (now, pretty much belated) 4/20 to the shrimp-heads (i.e. almost everyone). Big probs here at the rally (gun-toting idiot, apparently), but too tired/apathetic to look up deets. Ditto posting on Mulholland Drive (though I like, a lot).

Happy whatever else, to whomever.

I watched My Morning Jacket on ACL again (the Evil Urges episode, probably the 4th time I've watched it).  Just too many Evil Urges songs.  That album seems to get even worse with time.

Finally at the end they jam out "One Big Holiday" and the crowd got really happy and excited for a change.

I watched it too. I actually sort of forgave them for some of Evil Urges from that. That stuff that sounded like ill-fated excursions into funk and Prince-wannabe pop by an entirely different band on record sounded more like just some different instrumental textures and some different workouts of the Jim James falsetto when I heard them live. I'm not going to say it changed my opinion of the record, which still bums me out. Didn't even necessarily change my mind on many of the songs. But I did get the vibe they were still the band I know and love, and would probably be just fine. I still fucking despise "Highly Suspicious" though.

Odd but true: Mama really liked MMJ. Said they were great. Repeatedly.

Yeah, I probably enjoy the performance more than the album, hence I've watched it four times.

Their first appearance on ACL is great, although it's only 30 minutes.

Evil Urges is a mix of good and bad.  Of course Highly Suspicious is terrible, but there are songs I enjoy.

Why are the shrimp-heads celebrating Hitler's birthday?
