Oooo, nice!  A vintage reissue strat!  How does it play?  Where was it made?

For no other reason than I like to learn things: what makes that look like a vintage Strat instead of an ordinary one? And what tells you it's a reissue?

I assume it's a reissue simply because vintage guitars (to me, that means a guitar made before 1970) are rare and fucking expensive (There's a candy apple 1969 Strat for sale at a shop I like to visit, and it's going for $13 350).  And they usually look a bit more beaten up.

I assumed that it's a reissue of a vintage model (probably a 60's reissue strat) because the headstock Fender logo is a 60s style wide letter decal.  Plus, the pickups have staggered pole pieces (the little metal cylindrical thingies you see in the pickups), which is typical of vintage style strats, and the tuning keys look like vintage kluson repros.  Of course, I could be completely off: the picture isn't good enough, Fender have used all kinds of logos and parts through the years in their reissue guitars, and that guitar could be a parts-caster, that is, a strat assembled from bits and pieces from other guitars.

My japanese strat is a partscaster: none of the electronics are original, and its colour was changed.  I wouldn't have done that to an american made guitar, but I have no qualms with modifying a cheap japanese guitar to suit my needs.

Well... the Wilco release isn't what I thought it was. It's a 4-lp vinyl release of the live album "Kicking Television". If you still want it, I'll swing by the shops and see if it and/or the DBT 7" is still available tomorrow.

I wound up spending about $150 total and got a big pile of stuff. The best one comes with a story:

I was telling Neil, the owner of Origami Vinyl that I was impressed that Devo was so visible at Record Store Day, but felt like their releases weren't anything special (reissues of the 1st two albums plus a 12" with two songs from their upcoming album). As I was checking out, the vinyl guy from Warner Bros comes in. Apparently, they pressed up a special promo-only 7" with unreleased tracks from Black Keys and Devo. 300 copies total. 200 copies are going to be given away to the first people who realize that there's a secret e-mail address etched into the run-off groove on the new Black Keys 12" (limited to 500 copies). The other 100 are being given out to some hip record stores and at Coachella. He was dropping off a handful to Origami to give away this afternoon. I turned to Neil and said, "Now that's what I was talking about. A cool Devo release."  And the Warner guy gave me a copy. Score.

timing=everything.

$80 is kind of a lot at the moment, especially for songs i already have,  although i'm a sucker for limited edition vinyl. i'd have a hell of a time justifying it to kim, what with all kinds of new expenses that come with a madeline.  i think i'll take my chances with ebay down the road a bit.  the dbt however...if you are going anyway, yes please.  but don't make a special trip.  thanks!

this was meant as a reference to the warner guy/devo story, but it also applies to my limited funds when "now or never" offers come up.
