Man, I fucked up my back this morning. I bent down to feed the dog, and when I stood up something went very wrong. I went to work thinking it would get better during the day, but now it's worse. I can barely walk. I'm gonna see the doc in a little while, but what a drag.
Ouch.
Ev: yoga! Really! Not shitting you. Since I spend so much of my time sitting on my ass in front of a computer, I was having some serious back trouble. I started doing yoga out of desperation: I can't stand all the bullshit spiritual new age crap associated with it, so I was reluctant at first. But it really helped. I got myself three "power yoga" DVDs, one working abs, another for flexibility and another for upper body strength, and a yoga mat. In all it was something like 40 bucks. Each routine is 30 minutes, I do 90 minutes of yoga a week. The back pain is gone.

Simon goes to the doctor in about an hour, too. He's had a fever for 3 days.

I'm not a huge VW fan.
i dunno...i always had kind of a soft spot for the old models like a "thing" or a karmann ghia, but i could never really see myself driving one. i dig alot of the new models too, i guess.
Hardy-har.
Never could get one of those. Too Hitler-y for my taste.

I finished reading Rubicon, by Tom Holland. Enjoyed it a lot. Very crisp, clear narrative, and it was good reminder of the stuff I had learned at school (I took a bunch of roman and greek history classes as my electives).
The only negative thing I have to say about it is that the author has the bad habit of talking about events as if he actually knew for sure what went on, to the point where he actually describes the feelings of the persons involved, as if he was the omniscient narrator of a work of fiction. All we know about those times comes from a relatively small number of sources, and historians spend a lot of time arguing and speculating about the meanings and sense of what's on those documents. There are multiple interpretations. But you wouldn't have guessed it reading Tom Holland.
Anyway, in spite of this, I'm going to order Persian Fire.

Just downloaded Orca Bitte last night, after Jesse's story. Gonna jam that muss this weekend.
I'm with you on the yoga. I tried going to J_____s yoga studio a few times and just couldn't stand all the packaged spirituality stuff. "mind ventilation" etc.
But I just set up a yoga corner for S_____ in the basement, cuz she has some tapes she swears by. I'm gonna give it another go. Figure I can fast-forward if the chakra talk starts up.

Do Pilates instead of yoga. It's almost all upper body/core strengthening...without the flaky yoga "spirituality."
