Yikes. Rutland is 3 hours from my house. I'd be happy to help with lodging but that's a hell of a long drive.

I'm sure they're all set-up at a motel or something..
Are you asking why a guy whose career was nearly derailed by a rival wouldn't go for a plan that includes an exact duplicate of him? I'm not saying that not wanting a rival is the greatest reason to kill yourself every night, but it is A reason, and one that goes with his life experiences to some extent, no?
No, he's a ruthless bastard, not a masochist.
Did they ever indicate the duplicate had the experiences of dying? I don't think they did. Functionally, for the clone, it is the same as being teleported, except for the knowledge that he is actually a duplicate whose original is elsewhere dying. That's not masochism at all, if you don't have to experience the death yourself.
Even the use of the word "clone" is probably off here, as these are duplicates, not clones.

Wolverine gets into the duplicating machine, then his duplicate appears in the balcony, then Wolverine goes through a trap door into a tank of water and DROWNS. When Wolverine does the trick, he DIES. That is suicide.
The duplicate does not experience the death, BUT he makes the same decision to kill himself the NEXT show.

Yeah, but his decision to "kill himself" includes the knowledge that he will live on as an exact duplicate with the same consciousness, no memory of the dying, and all of the acclaim from an impossibly excellent trick.
I think you're giving much more import to the "but it's not really him, it's a duplicate" viewpoint than the character himself does. The man standing at the end of the trick, is the same guy, whether he was born that or generated. He's not a clone, he's an exact duplicate with the same consciousness and memories. Obviously, Wolverine views the duplicate's life as being a direct continuation of the original life, not a shadowy knockoff or echo. So for all intents and purposes, he isn't killing himself, just sacrificing one of two identical versions of himself in a way that brings no pain or even discomfort to the version left standing.

I haven't been as quick as you to assume that the duplicate shares the exact same consciousness as the original. Just because you create an exact duplicate of yourself doesn't mean that it would share your consciousness or that your personal reality will continue on in that body.
You must also consider the possibility that when the original drowns himself in the tank, that could be the end for his conscious reality and he's as dead as dead. From that perspective it's a sacrifice and a painful one at that. And he doesn't get to experience the glory for himself personally.
HOWEVER, having said that, I must concede your theory is the only rational one for the story. The only reasonable explanation for drowning himself is if his consciousness lives on uninterrupted up there in the balcony.
The first time he duplicates himself, he must've experienced first hand two different consciousnesses. He was looking at himself looking at himself looking at himself, etc. He freaked out and shot the other. Again, that existential dread is all taken from Jean-Paul Sartre.
But from that experience he would know that he does genuinely live on in the duplicate, and that's the only way he have the balls to drown himself in the tank (and perhaps to him this is an act of contrition for shooting the first duplicate).
As for the impossibly excellent trick, wouldn't it make a lot more sense to create a double and make peace with it? The audience would be no less impressed and no more the wiser.
Plus I think it would be a lot easier to hide ONE double from the public than it would be to hide a new dead body after every performance.
I guess he couldn't abide two of himself running around, so someone must go and by your theory it wouldn't matter which one. But it makes it tough as a viewer to accept this perpetual suicidal choice when a much simpler choice is at hand.
And I think you're underselling the perversity of killing himself in your argument. A lot of things about the movie are pretty ludicrous.
I agree entirely about the perverseness of the whole thing and that less brutal avenues were available. I am just trying to make sense of it, too, and the duplicate thing was my best shot.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if you don't know you're pregnant until a few hours before delivering a full-term baby, you're a fat fucking moron.
There are many many signs of pregnancy, even if you somehow still have your period. Dumb-ass. Way to know your body.
Sorry to hear your sad news, Dan.
Happy to hear your good news (re: Max), Tripp.
Aaand that's all I got. Bye!

Wait, the Warped Tour dude was from DC JAMS, right?
Max Recordings... who are they, Tripp? How did y'all hook up with them?
Max is a couple of dudes from Little Rock. They've had some success putting out stuff for American Princes and a few other bands.. I'd say they're kind of an alt-country label. All those Little Rock guys really revere Bobby y'know, for basically creating punk rock in Little Rock. Seriously, the whole of the Little Rock scene all point to Trusty as being the ones who started it all. Their DIY ethos.. So over the past couple of years we've been doing shows in Little Rock and at what was easily the WORST show we've ever done in Little Rock the guys from Max were hanging out with us later and basically asked if they could put out the record. That was a little over a year ago I think. We went with Max because they have a roster so we'd be part of a family.. Everyone in that family LOVES Bobby. They have good distribution and they'll do publicity. Also, they were the only ones who asked.
Sounds good! I'm really looking forward to getting your record.
