You know, way before the early church co-opted the pagan solstice celebrations, the winter solstice celebrations were, amongst other things, dedicated to Bacchus, the Roman version of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and intoxication, in the Brumalia festival.

I just thought that my fellow crappiteers would duly appreciate that entertaining bit of historical trivia.

As soon as my nephews (and sister) left after the Solstice Festival of Lights thingy on Monday, I celebrated with wine and intoxication.

Wine makes my stomach burn. Good thing there's whiskey.

You have to start out with the white. Then when you're not feeling any pain, you can switch to red.

Wine's hard on my stomach, too. But that's probably also because I drink too much of it. Oops.

Speaking of drinkin' it up, can we see you on Wednesday? We'll be back from Austin by then... I voted for this Saturday or Sunday but dude already made us some plans...

What?! YOU're tippy? Yay! Wink I'm on a fucking bus en route to the folks...it's taken 40 min just to get to the first suburb out of Toronto (normally the whole trip is 50 min). Ugh. Wish I was drinking... Then again I'd prolly just end up belligerent rather than merely annoyed.
