I hear you, Kurt. But sincerely: Dan isn't trying to convince anyone. This is just an isle where he (and sometimes I) post the funniest, stupidest arguments climate change deniers make. That's it.

Kurt, I'm not trying to convince anyone.  That last post of mine was mostly about former astronaut Harrison “Jack” Schmitt, the only scientist to walk on the moon, and a geologist.  He was a hero of mine when I was younger, and I'm really disappointed that he is a denier, and a wingnut.   He should know better.

However, I think I should say a couple of things about your last post:

Anyway, most global warming alarmist seem to think it's too late to reverse at this point.

Yes, global warming is already here. But its severity will be proportional to the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.  If we stopped emitting right now, we would get a temperature increase of only a few degrees.  But if we keep emitting carbon dioxide at elevated rates, like we are doing now, the temperature increase will be greater, and it will happen faster.  Doing nothing is not an option.

What I'm saying is, for those who believe and who care...DO SOMETHING.

The suburbs pollute as well as industry.   So look in the mirror.  Look at your own property, look around your neighborhood, realize you're living in a desert, accept responsibility, and do something.

I do not believe that just letting people behave will work.  It's not enough.  For instance, some of the major emitters are industrial operations.  Governments have to impose policies and regulations.  People won't do it alone, specially considering the lack of knowledge of this subject and the amount of horseshit out there regarding this subject.

You can argue with corporations and maybe they'll change and maybe they won't.

But people CAN do things themselves to help.  Consider every suburban lawn.  There are no emission standards for lawn mowers.  Why is that allowed?!  The suburbs are harvesters of smog and they rival the damages of industry.

I just want to see more proactive ideas being asserted.  To put everything on industry is delusional scapegoating.

I'm not.  It's just one of the numerous things that must be done.  The only institutions that can regulate these things are governments, both at the local level and at the national level.

Then the government needs to regulate lawnmowers.  I want to see a suburb revolution.

Gah! I think you're doomed if you're waiting for the government to save the day.

Oh, I know!  But who else has that regulatory power?
