HOLY CRAP! I hope any Crappiteers with even a vague interest in baseball saw the Tigers play the Twins for the AL Central crown yesterday. It was WHY YOU WATCH BASEBALL. 162 games played and the top two teams in the division were tied, 86-76 each. So they had to play an extra game to decide the champ. 20 year-old rookie phenom Rick Porcello struck out 8 for the Tigers, the lead changed maybe 6 times, it went to twelve innings, including one extra inning where both teams scored... it was just wall to wall awesome.

I bought the MLB iPhone app a while ago, and rarely used it except to consult scores or standings for a minute or two.

One of the cool features of the app is that you can listen to any game live - you can even choose which city you want the broadcast to originate from.

Yesterday, I wound up listening to the whole damn game. Holy crap that was good.

I KNOW!

I'm actually glad neither team was a favorite of mine, I'd have had a stroke. It was exciting enough as it was.

86 wins is pathetic but I'm happy for the Twins.  I feel something kindred between them and my Indians.

Detroit can suck it.

87 wins now, baby! Too bad their reward is a day game 15 hours later against the well-rested best team in the AL, against whom they rarely win, ever, even less so in New York.

Your Indians may yet be good again in 2011, if they're smart. If they're not, they'll spend the 20 or so million of slack in their 2010 payroll on veteran stopgaps and tie their hands without winning a significantly higher number of games.

The worst oart is the nearly $40 million y'all still owe Travis Hafner.

Other than him, it's not hopeless. A few good months from Wood and they can unload him on an NL team. Someone will probably take Peralta off your hands this winter. You may have to non-tender Shoppach, though, which is a shame.

Still hanging on to Sizemore, Choo, Carmona, and some of the other young talent, picking up some kids for Wood and Peralta, and having a ton of money suddenly available to spend in 2011 should make you guys contenders again sooner rather than later.
