I wish I could choose to do something artistic, but I realized a little while back that I'm a sucky writer, I can't draw or paint, and I can't sing or play any instrument worth a damn. Pretty much a lousy excuse for a human, except occasionally I say something that a few people think is kinda funny. Oh, and if you ever need an enabler, I'm definitely your guy.

I could use an enabler. Think I should get drunk tonight?

On future camping trips people will make s'mores out of electronic chocolate and digital marshmallows.

Or some clever soul will perfect teleportation and be able to send marshmallows and graham crackers directly to your campsite for a lower price than they sell in stores, but many people will insist on paying the higher cost to do it the old way, carefully loading up their backpacks and carrying their own, mumbling all the while about "the feel of the cellophane" and the "smell of the cardboard glue."

Noble folks, but they struck out on OLPC, imho. Netbooks ended up trumping them. You expect countries and charities to pay $100 per unit for odd, conceptual green laptops of limited means, when more powerful netbooks retail at $300 and probably wholesale for half of that? When OLPC was conceived, their $100 unit smoked conventional laptops in cost and value. But they froze the design and drug their feet getting started on deployment and in the meantime, technology made up most of the ground. Give it another year or so and $100 netbooks will be showing up the day after Thanksgiving at Wal-Mart or some such.

I think one of the reasons why I'm a bit sceptical regarding all these newfangled electronic gizmos is the fact that, somewhere in the back of my mind, there's always the fear that civilization as we know it will crumble sometime soon.  Dematerialized electronic books and music would pretty much cease to exist if things ever go to hell. 

You can tell I grew up during the cold war, eh?

See now, THAT is a fun idea to include in a sci-fi story. Civilization crumbles in 2125, and as generations forge on, the only music and books that survive are hundred year-old hard copies from private collections.

Wavves live was a good deal different than Wavves on record. The hype building around Nathan Wiliams (Wavves) had Friendship Cove packed wall-to-wall with young hipsters, and I could barely see the stage or the incredible drummer who was backing Williams up. It was only today that I discovered the reason I recognized him when I finally did see him: it was Zach Hill from Hella.

Ganglians were brilliant fun (better than Wavves)...but the entire Captured Tracks/Woodsist/Siltbreeze sound is really making me wish that the Strapping Fieldhands would reunite already.
