Thanks, everybody. Dad is very stable now and has been moved from the cardiac wing to a regular room. They still have no idea what caused the infection, which sucks, and he's going to have to get checked out by an internal medicine doctor. He may be there a while.

Heart disease runs in our family though and Dad is a big man who just turned 60, so no matter what they say, I am going to worry.

Even though I was feeling a bit ill, I managed to exercise today. I actually feel a little better now.

good to hear that your dad's situation seems to be under control, jeff.  ....nevertheless...massive PMA's continue your family's way.

Back to the Dad...

They're bringing in the infectious disease specialist to see my dad, trying to figure out what is causing the infection/inflammation around his heart. The word "meningitis" has been mentioned, but no one seems to know much at this point and I get all of my info third hand.

That's awful about your dad, Jeff. Hope they figure it out soon, so he can be treated quickly! Many heartfelt PMAs. I know exactly how you're feeling.

My dad's doing ok on the healing front. There's a lot of food he's grossed out by, and he can't eat much at all (having only 40% of his stomach left), and he's napping a lot, but definitely on the mend. So I know the PMAs work!!

Yeah, I read about him.  If someone deserved a Noble prize, it was that guy.

His obituary was on the CBC news web page.  In the comments section, someone who calls himself "Prolife" wrote "Norman who?".  And someone who uses the name "Albertagamer" added "Well, at least he didn't write a fictional book about "global warming" to earn his prize."

yeah.. but I'm turning all that kinda stuff down to conserve the battery..

I think that hooking up the old laptop to the LCDtv drained the battery..  does that add up..?  The laptop isn't powering the tv.. Is it taking more out of the battery to send the image to the monitor.?  All I know is that some of our problems began when I hooked up the laptop to the tv..

There could be a connection.

My battery is so fried I never unplug my laptop anymore because it only lasts about 5 minutes.

from what I have gathered that means you need to get a new battery soon.  Do it on ebay but be careful.. I suspect that some people sell near-dead batteries.

you'll probably save 70% finding it on ebay or a local warehouse type place..  I doubt I will ever buy anything directly from an Apple store ever again..

but thats twice in 2 years that our problems arose from the power cable..  the first time the cats knocked the laptop off the sofa and it landed on the the power connection plug..  ruined the power cable..   then this summer a security checker at an airport dropped S___'s laptop and it damaged the port.. Granted, it'd have been better if she'd disconnected it but that's why it seems to be  a problem area.

From now on I am keenly aware of the power cable and whether or not a cat could chew on it or if there's the tiniest bit of pressure on the port.
