I'm sorry for talking about SF in the main room, but Dan is doesn't seem to read the geek isles.

Ok, ok, start a sci-fi book thread in the geek isles.  I'll try to remember to check it out.   mr. disappointment

Dan, have you read The Mote in God's Eye?  That's supposed to be quite good.

Oooh lattice!  I actually picked that up a week ago, last time I went to the second hand book (and record) shop (Cheap Thrills, downtown).  It's in my pile of things to read.  But my pile of books to read tends to grow, instead of diminishing, these days, so I don't know when I'll get to that.

By the way, if you liked Ringworld, you might like Orbitsville, by Bob Shaw.  It's about a Dyson sphere.

You recommended it to me before, so that's on a list of books to read.

The NY Times Sunday magazine had an interesting article about Freeman Dyson a couple months ago.  He's still kicking.

I already did.  It's called Pulp Addiction and I filed it under Comix & Such.  People can talk about whatever kind of fiction they want to, but with the exception of one Dashiell Hammet novel, it's been all SF so far.

I just Googled "AFKC."

It said "Anybody for kissing cooter?"

I don't care what you meant, that what I'm going to pretend you said.

mmhmm.   s'what I meant.

I guess I really should've set it up in a survey window though.    Easier to digest the results in bar-graph form.

al needs to be the one doing the speeches from now on. obama is too busy trying not to step on toes to actually make a fucking point.   franken makes a great point about the swiss model.  no single-payer, no public option, but WELL REGULATED private competitors that have an affordable product and their not allowed to fuck people over if they think they might be more expensive than the average healthy joe.  i'd be happy with something like that. definitely a stepup from our current disaster. switzerland's health care system consistently rates among the top models in the world.  i would LOOOOVE medicare for all,(here's a great argument on that...) but it ain't happening in the current political environment.  and actually, what obama really should say next week is "fuck you all.  how dare you point out the speck in my eye, when you've got a big steaming pile of shit in your own.
