There's a really long thread on the "other board" that I hang out on about the people of walmart site. The consensus is that, for the most part, it's "make fun of poor people", and that's not cool. Some of the fashion choices, though, are pretty spectacular and have nothing to do with money.
I, on the other hand, continue to have loads of fun on

Ringworld inspired me to read all of his Known Space stories. Some of them wouldve been helpful to read before Ringworld, particularly the Neutron Star collection.
Not enough sci-fi writers take the science in science-fiction very seriously. Niven does most of the time, and just for that, his stories are worth reading.

Dan, have you read The Mote in God's Eye? That's supposed to be quite good.

Wow. So singing along with the record = "cover"

Oooh lattice! I actually picked that up a week ago, last time I went to the second hand book (and record) shop (Cheap Thrills, downtown). It's in my pile of things to read. But my pile of books to read tends to grow, instead of diminishing, these days, so I don't know when I'll get to that.
By the way, if you liked Ringworld, you might like Orbitsville, by Bob Shaw. It's about a Dyson sphere.
