Here's to bringing families together.  Continued PMA distribution to the LaRocca family.

Well, my de facto step dad & I made up.  So the weekend festivities are seeming appealing again.  The whole family is going on a train ride.  It's a scenic thingy through the Cuyahoga Valley.  Ohio has some of the most beautiful parks in the country, y'all.

I actual voted for the air show as our activity, but I guess not everyone likes stunt planes.

Still, the train ride is something I've always wanted to do but never have.  Seems like a relaxing time to finish this book...

And maybe start this book...

I've been reading too much SF lately but I can't stop myself.

What are you supposed to do on a train? Maybe drink cocktails and play bridge?

Oh, and UP! starts tomorrow at the $1.50 theater so I'll take my niece to see that...but I still haven't taken her see Ponyo yet.  Luckily still at the full price theater and I'm not convinced there are enough prints to make it the bargain theater.

I'm oh so glad it's Friday.

Plan for Sat. and Sun. - sleep past 6:00 a.m.

(Punctuation rule for the day: If your sentence ends with an abbreviation, don't use an additional period after the abbreviation.)

Ah yes, Heinlein and Niven... They're both hacks, they're both wingnuts (although Niven is not nearly as bad as Heinlein), they can't write worth a shit, but they're a fun light read.  Have you read Ringworld?

Some of that PeopleofWalMart stuff is funny, and god knows I make those jokes myself. But something about that site as an internet meme gives me pause. There's a sort of LOLpoorpeople vibe to it that is depressing.

yeah.  i agree.  i didn't know it existed until this morning (facebook link).  there is a lot of guilt/shame associated with humor at someone else's (unknowing) expense.  but still, some of those just make me go WOW.

Yeah I loved Ringworld, Dan. Niven's descriptions of space travel just bend my brain. I love when I can get a psychelic effect just off words on a page.

Plus his aliens are very funny.

Ptavvs is not as good as Ringworld but it has been enjoyable.

Ringworld inspired me to read all of his Known Space stories. Some of them wouldve been helpful to read before Ringworld, particularly the Neutron Star collection.
