I'll believe it when I see it. I've been hearing and reading about all kinds of amazing breakthroughs for decades now that never go anywhere, so I learned to be cautious of this stuff... Mass media are horrible at following through with these things. They report it once, and then they forget about it, so we never get to know if the damn thing actually works, or if there is a snag somewhere.

the snag, obviously, is convincing the power companies around the world to all fold up and call it quits so we can have cleaner, cheaper, safer, more sustainable energy. not gonna happen anytime soon.

Mike White really doesn't have to do much to make me laugh my ass off. (I never did see his Amazing Race stuff. Was that for real? Did any of y'all watch?) Oh, are there other people in it, too?

It seems that, according to a number of news outlets, Les Paul invented the electric guitar...

So we've talked about this a little before, but I'm in the middle of talking to JagJag about doing Home 17 on vinyl.
I approached them, and at first they said "no fucking way. too expensive". But then he wrote me back last night and said "what would you think about vinyl and digital only?"
I'm really into this idea. I think CDs are on their way out. I think most people that listen to Home are music nerds and have turntables, and are comfy with digital music.
But do you think I'm jumping the gun? Are we going to lose out on a lot of casually curious people who are used to CDs?
I have recently returned to buying vinyl. Regardless of all of the naysayers who suggest that digital captures all of the information in the original recordings, I swear that there is a richness to vinyl which cannot be beat. Digital is hardly a waste of time and I won't needlessly slander it, but I feel like I can climb into a record and join the band when I have a record on. That is not a feeling I ever experience listening to CDs.
So yeah, design your business approach according to my personal music-listening trajectory.
Incidentally, I've been playing those Home singles the last couple of days...there is one I am particularly fond of, but I cannot, at the moment, recall the title.

Fuck CDs. Vinyl for the diehards, digital for the rest.
My favourite thing in the world these days is buying purty LPs that include a password for a digital download.
Really: do this.

I should be allowed to punch one person a day in the face. It would really mellow my mood.
I helped a cashier haul an over-filled mop bucket to the back alley yesterday
when we arrived there I stood for a moment as she strained to find a way to tip it without splashing herself
I cut in and lifted it with my foot and flipped over and away from us
she said "You're so angry." (this was a joke)
and I said, "Well, they won't let me hit any of the customers, so..."
and I thought of you, Jeff
(not as someone to hit, but as someone who knows)
