New interview with Greg Oblivian/Cartwright, aka my vote-getter for "best living rock songwriter."

From the interview:

the world is lousy with perfect singers. You can turn on American Idol and every one of them is pitch perfect, and not very interesting...the thing about people who don’t have a lot of range is that they usually sing in a peculiar kind of way. They don’t have the range, it makes them work a lot harder to hit the notes, which makes them sound like they’re in pain. That lends its self to heart breaking songs.

Good singers use the limits of their voices for emotional effect.

A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.

Robotic Technology Inc.'s Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot — that's right, "EATR" — "can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable," reads the company's Web site.

That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material — animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.

Man, it's like something out of a Japanese cartoon!  I wonder how they're thinking of doing it?  Enzyme digestion producing biogaz combined with other stuff maybe?  Anyway, seems too ambitious... I'll bet you they won't be able to do it.

This is in an underpass three streets over from my house in little suburban Pointe-Claire:

There was a stand on St-Catherine with two Larouche followers and a big poster of an Hitlerised Obama with the words "Hitler with a friendly smile" beneath.   I find this much hatred puzzling... I mean, in the US political context, Obama is a boring "centrist", a guy who's pretty much following along the same old bullshit policies of other presidencies.   Yet, he is the crank's number one enemy, and he seems to bother them way more than Dumbya ever did.  Wonder why?  Is it the name?  The skin colour?

The Michael Jackson Pepsi commercial footage where his hair catches fire has finally been unearthed:

That's so sad.  He was probably never the same after that.

I don't know how much I feel sorry for the multi-multi-multi-millionaire who was lightly toasted (for perhaps 15 seconds) while he was in the midst of shilling for the behemoth Pepsico. The flames of hell tongued him while he was "sucking satan's cock".

I don't very much care at all for Michael Jackson. I did not experience even the vaguest sense of loss when i heard of his demise ... and three weeks of being subjected to his music in high rotation (at work) has made me realize that I never cared for a single song of his. The final decades of his life were far more depressing than his death.

I just don't care.

(someone should do a mash-up of the burn video and Jarvis Cocker's reaction to Jackson's depraved narcissism)

(rough day at work)

I'd still like to know what a racially biased question was on that firefighter's test.

Maybe I am jut bitter that non one commented on my photo this morning.

Oh, and apparently a couple of people came to my store on Monday and asked if Jo*hn (the owner), would allow for them to hold conferences there at night. T*im looked at the pamphlets that they had thrust into his hands and realized that they concerned Chemtrails phenomena.

Sometime after they left the store they were spotted standing in the parking lot, pointing at the sky, trying desperately to convert shoppers to their line of thinking.
