Holy crap. Flaming Lips are playing the Greek Theatre in August. Pre-sale started at 10am. I bought my tickets at 10:40, and the entire GA pit and the reserved first section is sold out... at $50 a pop. Wound up with 11th row of section B. Heather loves 'em, and it's less than two weeks after her birthday, so...

Yeah, but you're friends with Steven...I'm sure he'd understand that.

Speaking of drummers and such, what are the chances SeanHome will be yours at crapsapaloozastock? Not that I don't adore ChrisHome, as you know.

What one record in your collection would you get into a fight over?

(or if you have lots, which one would cause the biggest fight?)

Which doesn't necessary mean your favorite to listen to.  But the actual physical slab that you have strong emotions attached to.

Its a funny thing about records.  They are mass-produced.   You can in most cases go to amazon or eBay and get another one just like it.   But I'm realizing that sometimes the unfiltered feeling is "no!  i want THAT one!"

patti smith horses (mine...but she would fight me for it)
elton john  captain fantastic (hers...but it would end up mine)

actually, i'd probably give her both, because neither is something that i couldn't get somewhere else in a heartbeat.

i suspect the biggest fight would be over a test press copy of jawbreaker's unfun. i spent 100 dollars on it.  just the standard version on vinyl goes for 100 bucks or more on ebay sometimes.  so i figure i got a deal on something there might only be one or two other copies floating around of.  it's totally mine.  and i vowed never to play it. (still got the ol' tagger on it)  i've actually caught kim playing it a couple times.  her rebuttal has been "well, it's mine."  somehow, she's gotten the idea that i bought it as a gift for her. i didn't.   i've also got a good handful of original buddy holly singles (coral and brunswick labels) that would raise some questions. i figure those we would just split up. we could take turns picking, like they were kickball teams.

other that those,  i don't think there'd be a whole lot of arguments, although there's a bunch of records i'd sorely miss.

Wow, Farrah Fawcett had anal cancer. If I had that, I wouldn't be able to resist when asked what was wrong to just say "I got cancer up the ass."

It was 82F (100F w/ humidity) earlier before the first of today's thunderstorms. PERFECT weather for the municipal garbage strike* - we're on day 4 and it's grim out there already. (This also affects recycling, and the home composting program -- which is going to get even smellier and gross than just plain trash.) Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty isn't going to order the union back to work...

In other strike news, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario workers are also striking. Meaning, no liquor stores -- our liquor distribution in Ontario is regulated/owned by the government. Total monopoly. The Beer Store (different union) and some independent wine shops (no union, franchised) are keeping us with supplied with the basics. Ontario is so uncivilized. We should be able to buy beer and wine at the corner store, gas stations, etc.

*It's not just sanitation workers. The union includes day care workers, community center staff, etc., basically public works. But the thing people are complaining most about is the garbage. All the public bins on street corners are now overflowing -- people are trying to dump garbage from their homes in public trash cans. It's disgusting. My roomie and I don't generate a lot of trash anymore, as most goes into recycling and a lot into our city composter...but that's reeeeeeeeeeeeally gonna get filled up/rotten fast. Ew.

Anyone else reading Mark Sanfords sexts?

I really should know better by now.    Other people's hotttmail kinda diminishes the effect of mine.    I don't need to know that anyone except me experiences passion.      I own passion.

i laughed at the ones olbermann was reading last night, but haven't really dug deeper.*

oh...  I doubt it.   He's going to play in Tampa with us, but he has 3 (sheesh!!) kids now, including a newborn.    I dont see him getting out of the house anytime soon.

and I'm not 100% sure that Chris will be with us.   For various non-conversational reasons.   We'll have to see how the summer goes.
