How did republian become synonymous with radical christianity and racism? How did radical christianity become synonymous with racism?

Not sure when or how, but I'll guess that ignorance plays an influential role somewhere in there.

When did republican become synonymous with ignorance?

When they became synonymous with radical christianity and racism.

That's plus 1 point for "appropriate quote"... but minus 3 for "Billy Joel"... please play again.

Before the comedy show, we're heading to the East Side for Korean BBQ Taco Truck action!

Quick update: got the Timecrimes DVD last night, but wound up not watching it - actually just hung out with Heather. It was very nice. We caught up on some TV and chatted. I was going to go out to see a band at 11, but decided to read a book instead. Sometimes a breather is necessary.

I agree! (Though sometimes I take too many breathers.)

they should stick with the rainbow.  the circle one is ok, but it's just a variation of the rainbow.  the two pinkish ones are just stupid. do they think that gays are uniquely american?

meanwhile, burger king wants to sell you their new burger.  fill your desire for something long.  the big 7 incher.  it'll "blow" your mind.   instead of all the stupid double entendre,  they shoulda just wrote  "eat a dick".

Woooooaaaah. Wow. Just wow.

BTW, I agree about the rainbow, from design point of view, the circle just seems lame.

Pride Week kicked off on Sunday, and comes to a head culminates this weekend with the Dyke March on Saturday and Pride Parade (biggest in North America -- take that, San Francisco and NYC!) on Sunday. Supposed to get together with some of the lesbos, and hoping they choose the Saturday option (though they'll probably go to both). Every time I do the Sunday Pride thing, I end up home, bombed out of my head and frequently high, by 8pm -- makes Monday a little iffy, so Saturday works much better for me and my bad habits.

(hoping page 3 brings me back to the bringdown.)

folks only want us memphians when they're drunk.

Seriously, I don't think Amsterdam is going to happen. Maybe I could fly into Memphis, and ya'll could just kinda drive me around for a few days.

Or you could just get really high and pretend you're riding bicycles around a canal or two.

That's a great (although somewhat creepy) photo!

i know- it's totally creepy! the actors playing the kids are in their 40s (and good friends of mine, as well). they had to play other roles in the show as well, so they were a little cracked out by the time we took these pictures. their costumes were HILARIOUS.

I recognize Floyd but who's the other creepy kid? You look awesers, btw, totally fun!

Matthew, I always appreciate your perspective on issues. Those articles you posted were jarring reading.

As I said, I've been watching world tv channels over the last week trying to get a different perspective. (Within hours of "Neda" dying, that YouTube clip had been set to pop songs and was airing over and over on Omid Iran tv. I saw it there well before I saw it on US tv.)

Still, no matter what channel you watch, it's hard work sorting the bullshit, honestly.

I do wonder though, how much this really suits Obama's aims. I'm as cynical as the next man (maybe not if you were the next man, Matthew, but the man after you anyway), but hasn't he been pushing to open dialogue between the US and Iran? This makes it more difficult, doesn't it? And if this is a long con with his eventual aim being to say he has no choice but to confront Iran, why spend political capital refusing to do so now?

Certainly, it suits many people's purposes for the Iranian election to appear illegitimate. I will need more convincing to believe Obama is one of them, though.

This isn't me disagreeing, mind you. And it's certainly not me touting Obama--who has been almost a wall-to-wall disappointment to me. (See the US drones killing Pakistanis as we speak). And I find it hard to believe the US government has any part in this without his consent. So, overall, I'm just not ready to call this a conspiracy.
