Hey,

Lurking here, I'm so ready for summer vacation, I'm not getting anything done here these days..

I just got offered free metallica tickets, what do you guys think, should I take them?  I'm not that into them, but it's probably worth the experience...  but it seems like such a hassle.

I'm sure Pat will disagree, but I wouldn't go.  They would have to pay me, and pay me a lot of money, to convince me to go see that band.

free?  maaaaaaybe.  however, i saw Metallica in '88. (new orleans) i thought it was great. i was 14 and way into metallica at the time. during "seek and destroy" after the intro riff kind of winds to the main riff, they trainwrecked.  stopped mid-song.  james hetfield burped loudly into the microphone. lots of laughter.  he then announced that "i think jason has something for you", and jason newsted farted in the microphone. more laughter.  after a bit more "awkward improv" lars counted off and they picked the song up right where they left off.  as a young fan, i thought this was great.  i witnessed a vulnerable metallica fuck up,  played it off with humor (something they didn't show too much)  and recoup rather nicely. HOWEVER, a few months later a friend of mine gave a bootleg record from the san antonio show of the same tour.  exact same set list, which is always a bit disappointing, but i would soon realize was pretty par for the course with big name arena type acts. when they got to "seek and destroy",  THE EXACT SHIT.  trainwreck.  burp.  jason farts (although it was clearly a fake this time).  count off.  etc.    my heart sank.  it was all a fucking stupid act.  i've pretty much resented metallica ever since.  not so much that they fooled me, but that at 14, i CHOSE to give metallica my loyalty, when neil young (with the bluenotes) were playing the saenger theater that night and jane's addiction were playing tipitina's.  either of those would still hold a warm spot in my heart i'm sure.    not to mention that after ...and justice for all, metallica has yet to make a decent record.  fuck those dirtbags.

I didn't know Bobby was an aspiring comic.

Vworp! Vworp! is the sound of Doctor Who's TARDIS*, but it doesn't sound like that to me.

I'm curious to see how his new-found improv skills will translate to the band..

The Doctor explains how the inside of the TARDIS is bigger than the outside. Trans-dimensional engineering.

no. although i imagine it might be worth checking out, in a 'slow drive past the ambulance' kind of way.

I'd like to see it.  Sounds pretty funny...a "metal" band in therapy together.

as long as he doesn't suggest a choreographed trainwreck followed by burps and farts, i think he'll be ok. also, you might get worried if he books a dragoon show at Coconuts Comedy Club or something.
