This is a clip of David Thomas from Pere Ubu comparing his band to a cup.

I am offering this without comment.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/_UQsqFiyw9k" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/_UQsqFiyw9k</a>

It's a funny way of putting it but I think I get it.  I think he's basically saying that Pere Ubu represents a single unified body of work, that the stuff that appeals to the fans and the stuff that the fans hate, it is all the same kind of music: Pere Ubu's music.  That there wasn't really crap Pere Ubu and good Pere Ubu, it was all the same music, just played differently.

I think it's a load of bollocks, just David Thomas cryptically trying to find a justification for the crap.  But I don't care: in my opinion, The Modern Dance is one of the greatest things ever put to wax.

Well yeah, I can see what he's trying to say. But in the field of wanktacular self-important interview answers involving bad analogies, that's a prize winner for sure.

I think David Thomas is really bitter, (in fact, has been really bitter for years!) that he isn't as big as Bono.

This is an outstanding piece of video.  Watch it full screen, if you are able.

I found somebody with it on Soulseek. No guarantee I can get the download from them before they log off, etc., but I'll give it a shot. He's in Italy and his connection isn't superfast, so it'll be a while in any case.

Italy..  Probably somebody from Homesleep records..

Watching Mister Lonely right now...

May as well be two hours of Harmony Korine beating his cock with one hand and $12,000,000 dollars burning in the other.

... this line just rang off the screen:

"It doesn't take long to die. I think. Not as long as it takes to live."

(cut to 23 year old wife of Harmony Korine dressed as Red Riding Hood singing as she walks along train tracks)

We have already been treated to "clever" little vignettes such as:

* nuns sky diving on BMXs over Panama

* with flashing colored strobe lights and NY house music blasting, a crouching Abraham Lincoln impersonator recites a speech while spinning a basketball on his index finger

* a Buckwheat impersonator bathing a Pope impersonator in a tub in the middle of a field

* a Sammy Davis Jr. impersonator breathing fire from a castle wall

* Three Stooges impersonators doing Tai Chi in bee keepers masks...

(ah, more sky diving nuns now... why is Werner Herzog in this)

I love Sun City Girls, but their music for the film is incredibly obnoxious.

That was cool.
