Work is crashing down all around me with more and more time-intensive demands, just as M______ is riding the roller coaster of postpartum depression and afraid to be alone. This sucks.

after we lost our child in december, kim (well, both of us, really-  but obviously it affected her in a much more personal/psychological way) went through SERIOUS bouts with depression. still going through it. she works days, and i work 3-4 nights a week.  not nearly enough quality time together as i would like.  she has a bad day, i get the brunt of it.  it's tough.  i've found that making sure EVERY MINUTE of the time that we DO have together is spent on activities that bring us together (cooking dinner together, making cornhole boards, etc.)  is very beneficial.  get yourself a babysitter and take that lovely wife of yours on a date. even if all you feel like doing is cracking open a grolsch and laying on the couch. find a home project that both of you can look forward to working on when you come home from work.  make her anxious for you to come home, rather than upset that you're not there.  give her something to look forward to.  lots of pma action headed your way.

That advice really rings true, Pat. Thanks.

And on the subject of advice: New Values is indeed awesome. Good call.

Dan, you watch his remake of Funny Games?  Looks pointless.

Nope.  As you said, pointless.  As far as I know, it's a faithful remake, with better know english-speaking actors instead of german.  I guess Haneke wanted to go for the subtitle hating public.

Stupid, really.

The original Funny Games pissed me off. I guess it was successful if that's what it was trying to do, but I sure didn't like it.

That won't stop me from seeing his new movie, though. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Hameke is all about not giving you what you want.  That's why I like his movies.  You want an explanation?  Nope.  You want closure?  Ah!  You want a happy ending?  Go watch a romantic comedy or something!

It's perverse fun, a bit on the masochistic side but, in my opinion, fascinating to watch.

First of all, massive PMAs streaming your way.

Secondly: fuck work!  Take care of your woman!

And now I am going to go play some electric guitar.  It's late and I have to use my headphones plugged into amp emulator rig, but it's the only way I can keep playing regularly these days.
