The Melvins are cool too.  Not everything, but they can be pretty heavy, and no cookie monster vocals.

yes!!!!

good god, they were so great.   and insanely sweet dudes considering their onstage personality.

Blue Chair was the hub of all things good in Tampa in those days.    That was the store that had the Home $1 cassette jar on the counter.   I'm scrambling trying to find a picture of it (the jar) for the release of all those early albums this summer.

we played the night before the Blue Chair closed and spray painted the fuck out of it, then I took an axe and laid that place low.

(dries tears) yeah.  as sooon as the blue chair shut down,  ybor city died and went to some sort of mardi gras hell. was never really cool at all anymore. i don't think it was merely coincidence. and nice job with the axe!

Yeah. its sad stuff.      There are still 2 places worth going there, but unlike the old days, you plan your route to completely avoid everything around it.    used to be you'd show up early in the evening and just stroll around to see what everyone was up to.
