Only he's not in the House (of Parliament) because asswipe Stephen Harper did not invite him to address the Canadian people via Parliament, but he is here today. In Ottawa, specifically, on a diplomatic visit, talks with Harper, photo ops, that kind of junk.

My roommate said he saw the coverage of Obama landing this morning and Ottawa (the downtown of which has been shut down now for two days in preparation) and it looks dismal, like some (way) northern trade outpost, when in fact it's a really beautiful city (when not frozen solid).

Matilda's blood pressure got worryingly high today, so we had to take her to the hospital around 5pm. They're keeping her overnight to monitor her. They need to decide if this is onset of preeclampsia, and if so, if it's better to induce now (though there is a risk the little guy's lungs are not yet fully developed) or try and stay the course (though preeclampsia is dangerous for her and the baby, and the treatments for it have their own risks).

Our doctor gets to the hospital bright and early tomorrow and will decide. I am kind of expecting to be a daddy tomorrow. I stayed until 11ish when her most recent spate of high bp ended and then was kicked out to go home and sleep.

the whole king and queen thing was kinda cool, i guess.  i got a kick out of capt's post yesterday,  mainly because i didn't realize that is even made a dent in the national news but also because i figured the "best behavior" comment was kinda in jest, not realizing that i was to be in their immediate presence for a couple hours. the whole deal is that this year marks the 450th anniversary of the settlement of pensacola by the spanish.  the first settlement by europeans in the new world, despite what those st. augustine folk will tell you. (a hurricane wiped us out, so they moved to st. augustine, only to resettle here later)  so to help celebrate, the king and queen of spain were invited.  for the luncheon thing (a "pay lots of money to eat with royalty" type thing for 500 + people), 50 local servers were chosen, (we had to do background checks and everything...ugh) and of those 50, 4 were assigned to the head table, with all the "important" people. the 4 of us got to wear the special white coats.  the other 46 schmoes got no coat.  kind of an honor i guess.  probably the last time i get to rub shoulders with a bonerfide head of state.  as far as dan's "spitting in the food" comment,  i don't know enough about the politics of spain to harbor any ill will towards those guys. although our congressman, jeff miller is probably the biggest prick in the entire house. and that's saying alot.  i definitely thought about compromising his meal. and compromising charlie crist's wife.  she's quite the looker.  and you know he ain't giving it to her.
