I saw
Bottle Shock
last night. It's about the '76 "Judgment of Paris" wine competition. California wines, to that point considered a footnote at best, were invited in an attempt to be inclusive. They roundly kicked the ass of French wines in both white and red. Kind of a formulaic shaggy dog story, but it's an amiable time waster if you like wine. And Alan Rickman... he's great in this.
"Why don't I like you?"
"Because you think I'm an asshole. I'm not, really. I'm just British... and you're not."

Did Alec Baldwin's daughters introduce the Jonas Bros on SNL? Is he trying to make up for calling one of them a pig?
Those Jonas boys are pretty weird. The older one with the cowboy boots, the womens' leather jacket and the scarf? He really looked like Jimmy Osmond circa 1980.
They're probably not as good as Hanson.

The first 1/3 of SNL was shaky! Because the Palin stuff got them prime time specials they always open with politics. The Republican meeting was obvious and unfunny. Felt bad for Aykroyd. The interrupted monologue is a tired bit, but Jack McBrayer did a nice job. The Jonas skit was bad and they sucked.
The Cougar Den is dead. Surprise appearance by Cameron Diaz is the death throes.
I tuned in for Baldwin. Why are they constantly upstaging him?
Digital Short is more Jonases...and it's actually pretty cool. All boy bands shouuld collaborate with Samburg.
Too bad their live perfomance sucked. They're not very strong vocally. The sound is canned of course.
The news was more boring than usual (but I'm glad Seth stole our Hayek breast feeding jokes), so it looks like we're in for 3 BAAAAD episodes in a row.
BUT the end of the show was surprisingly FUNNY! Hader as Vincent Price, Baldwin as Richard Burton, Wiig as Carol Channing, Armisen as Libarace...the skit gets across with good impersonations.
The boardroom meeting is better. Kind of has a Mr. Show spirit. Mounting absurd excuses for not being able to schedule a meeting...but the excuses are very good and Baldwin and Hader do funny voices. Unfortunately Forte's part is irritating.
The Wii skit made me laugh my ass off. Best skit in a looong time.
Virgania Horsen is a hysterical Wiig character to me.
First Coughs is great too (acting techniques for "mastering the art of foreshadowing your character's death").
Why did such good material get pushed to the back?

Terrible episode overall. (Though I, too, was impressed by the Carol Channing impersonation.) The wii remote shaking/jerk-off motion made me LOL.*
*Not loud enough to wake Pogo!, apparently. Too bad. I think he woulda liked that one.
Also: OBAMINATOR? hahahahahahaha. Saweet.

Hey Tripp, are you up for some post-apocalyptic sci-fi? Have you read The Day of the Triffids, by John Wyndham? It's fun. A bit too much "cosy catastrophe" at times (you know, when the world goes to hell but the few survivors still manage to live a comfortable existence
), but still an entertaining read.

that seems to be the major trend these days. A realistic assessment of our near -future packaged as science fiction.
The Road.. Jericho.. Planet Z.. Children of Men is kinda that genre. There's all this exploration of what happens when society breaks down.

I went to a party last night and ended up outback by a fire with some lesbians who were regaling me with tales of their cargo container homes.. Have you heard about this? And what was weird was my friend Vince was standing there and it turns out he's interested in doing the same kinda thing belinda and karen did.. move out to the country, buy a couple of steel cargo containers, convert them into homes, and raise dogs or whatever..
