"The chief problem about death, incidentally, is the fear that there may be no afterlife -- a depressing thought, particularly for those who have bothered to shave. Also, there is the fear that there is an afterlife but no one will know where it\'s being held."

WARNING: economic debate contained within spoiler tags.

[spoiler]
If I recall correctly, Keynes approach involved, to put it simply, a reduction in interest rates and government investment in infrastructure.

Interest rates are part of it, but the core of it, as it is usually applied goes something like this... when the economy slumps, you calculate the amount of money that is missing from the economy, that is, the money that would be getting spent if everything was hunky dory. Then, the government injects that money back into the economy through infrastructure spending. Whether this application of Keynes's ideas is faithful to his intentions is an academic matter, because this is exactly how they are being applied.

This is the stimulus we're talking about here, not the bailouts.

It's ok, Jeff!  When you said "enormous amounts of money" in that first post, I assumed you were talking about bail outs, in part, I think, because they talked about bail-outs and the obscene amount of cash involved in this morning paper.  I was still fuming about it, so that's all I thought about.  I stand corrected.
