Tell me about!  Happens to me all the time.  I'm one of those guys that doesn't want to sleep at night, then can't get out of bed in the morning...

Tell me about it. I just didn't want to go to bed last night even though I had to get up early.

And I'm pretty much useless to the world before 10 am.  It's kind of a drag, as R_____ is one of them annoying morning persons.  She's like all chipper and bouncing along at 9 am, whereas I'm slower than a  tree sloth on analgesic drugs.  I can just (barely) read the fucking newspaper and mumble a lot.

i have trouble sleeping. borderline insomniac.  i'll sit and try to make myself tired by watching boring ass tv, or foreign movies, (sometimes reading will make me fall asleep) but usually just toss and turn until the wee hours and then as soon as i'm sound asleep, kim's alarm will wake me up.  she gets up around 6:30.   urgh.   i need to get another day job.  it's not such a problem once it becomes routine.

I caught a scene from Saving Private Ryan not long ago that I didn't remember from seeing it in the theatre BUT in it Giovanni Ribisi  explains that the best way to fall asleep is to try to stay awake.   I've been trying that and it does seem to kinda work.
But I've been an insomniac since I was  a little kid and I've always read that if you can't sleep you should get up. Don't lie in bed trying to fall asleep. If you can't sleep then you can't sleep so don't fight it. Just get up and watch a movie or read or something.
Sometimes I'll down some nyquil but that always takes an hour or so to kick in.

the biggest problem is, i REALLY LIKE SLEEPING!   it's up there with the sex and drugs and rock'n'roll.   it's just that i have trouble. (sometimes i have trouble getting enough sex and drugs too) i have no trouble sleeping at very inopportune times.  like funerals, or broadway plays.  then i just nod off. and snore.

Yeah, I don't know whyb I feel the need to say up, but I can't seem to shut off my brain at night. And I have to be up at 5:30.

I think it's because we're all rock and rollers and we like the night life.  We like to boogie.
We were all brought together by our love of music and rock shows. We're cut from a different cloth than the rest of society..!

the best way to fall asleep is to try to stay awake.

I touched on that idea a couple of years back:

....

In my battle with insomnia (which my meds are not making an easier, despite the lobotomizing/lathargarizing effect they seem to have) I have found it somewhat useful to put films on to fall asleep to. I find it near impossible to fall asleep reading, as I find that as soon as I start feeling sleepy I end up putting the book down and my mind begins to race and I become very self-aware and cannot fall asleep. The TV sits on my table and as I start to feel tired, I can turn over and let it continue to run as I drift off ...

Unlike the book I will put down once I am sufficiently exhausted only to rewaken, I can continue to listen to dialogue as I tumble into dreams. It seems to work for me. I actually sleep somewhat better than I did in 2006.

I have to go to a friggin' teachers' workshop tomorrow, so no sleeping in on Saturday for me. I think there oughta be a law against making teachers do anything on the weekend. Sometimes having Sat. and Sun. is all that keeps me from going completely bonkers.
