OK!

All right, I got me some cookin' (making veg chili, a cauliflower/potato curry, and a peanut/tofu/soba noodle dish) to start for the week ahead. Vegetables don't chop themselves you know.

I had a cauliflower/potato curry last Sunday at one of the buffets here, and it was MOST delicious!  I normally don't care for cauliflower but this mess looked so good I had to try it.  And it was yummy.

So, I hope yours is yummy as well, I guess!

Ended up making more of a thai green curry version (with coconut milk, added peas, too, etc.). It's yummers, I have to say. (I cut up the cauliflower real small, so even if you don't like the stuff, it's just a wee bite to "get through." Wink )

Waiting for the kidney beans to cook down (soaked 'em earlier this morning), then it's chili time. Yay!

I think my friend Jim Bryson's gonna be in town, crashing at ours tonight, so there's likely to be (more) drinking and dining fun later... It's like being at the International House of Pancakes over here. My roommate called me "ethnic" because of what's going on in the kitchen today. knnnnnch.

I am drunk. Water break!

Would you believe I'm still sickish? Not like I was, but can't seem to shake off the last of it. I feel almost well today, but there's still a little discomfort in my throat, bronchial problems, and the no-energy thing. I've been really low-key - not drinking, smoking, or staying up late. Hopefully, all will be well when I have to go back to work on Tuesday.

His son is a handsome lad.

Saw Blindness last night. Watchable, but didn't hit me nearly as hard as the book did. Moving it from fable to film sort of muted it a bit. It ends up playing out like the social commentary aspect of a post-apocalyptic zombie movie, with all of the zombie action removed. And while I could go along with the numb acquiescence to evil of the characters in the book, watching the movie, I ended up shaking my fists and wondering why they didn't kill some motherfuckers in their sleep. The ending isn't especially satisfying either. And Danny Glover's character is leaned on clumsily for narration/exposition in several spots.

I'd interested to see what someone else who'd read the book would say about it. It couldn't have been easy to adapt.

I read the book (Hey greatest Portuguese writer alive, of course I read him!), but I knew the book couldn't be adapted successfully, so I didn't bother with the movie.

Have you read The Gospel According to Jesus Christ?  If not, I highly recommend it, it's worth it!

I've neither read nor seen Blindness, but movies based on novels by literary stylist usually don't work.

Speaking of bad movies, I watched Righteous Kill (cop movie with DeNiro and Pacino).

Don't watch it.  Don't do it.

Pacino looks ancient.  His plastic surgery is terrible.  He moves like he should be in a nursing home.  He shuffles around and does his irritating schtick, but he can't move his face.

Him and DeNiro as cops is laughable.  They should be forced into retirement.  But their boss is Brian Dennehy and he's even older.

But the script is the worst.  The direction is limp.  It has a long, boring twist at the end.  You know the formula.

I wondered the same thing.  I felt sorry for Rosario Dawson.

Added to the Wishlist on Amazon. That does look right up my alley.

So who's the second-best Portuguese writer alive?

Antonio Lobo Antunes.  But some of his stuff gets a bit too experimental for my taste.  I don't know if he's been translated to english.

Of course, I'm only talking about those that are published and well known.
