It's from an acoustic demo.

That's good stuff. I need me some Go-Betweens.
I've been listening to Mavis Staples' new live album,
Hope at the Hideout
. She's on Anti/Epitaph Records now and working with a kind of gnarly Stax-by-way-of-Fat-Possum band with just three musicians and two backup singers. She's focusing on her protest songs these days. Highly recommend.
Check out "Waiting for My Child" or "Freedom Highway" on

If you want sparse and angular, go for their Before Hollywood record. For lush pop, can't go wrong with Sixteen Lovers Lane. The song I posted above is an acoustic demo of my fav. song on Sixteen. My favourite all time Go-Betweens record is, however, Spring Hill Fair. Perfect record, not one bad song in it. It would be in my desert island package. And it has Draining The Pool For You, a song that I adore: whenever I hear that song, I'm feel like it was written for me, that the narrator of the song is me, the little immigrant that everyone expected would keep to shitty menial jobs serving the rich and better educated. All their records, from Before Hollywood to 16 Lovers Lane, are, in my modest opinion, great. Even their later, more "mediocre" records have a bunch of good songs in them. I'm a huge fan, they're one of my favourite "pop" bands.

I actually
am
listening to that GNR record some, by the way. Still too many ballads and still insanely produced, but there are at least three great songs on there and four or five pretty good ones.
So no, it doesn't suck. And it's already platinum in Finland!

Boy, the announcement of Kenny's death broke crappity. You couldn't take it, I guess.

Either that, or Jeff's announcement that the new G'n'R doesn't suck stunned everyone (except me, I'm made of sterner stuff) into silence.

I think it was both.
Continuing my "reviews that no one can use", saw Iron Man this weekend. I liked it. One of the better superhero movies, I'd say. Never read the comics, so take that with a grain of salt if they fucked up the translation.
Also laughed plenty at Sarah Marshall. Didn't dig into me quite as deep as Superbad or Knocked Up, but still better than 95% of comedies in this era.
