According to my wife the volunteer breastfeeding consultant, most breastfed kids stop nursing of their own volition around 3 or 4 years of age.  Some take a little bit longer.  But, you know, there's nothing sexual or freaky about it.  When they're older, they don't really feed, they do it to feel closer to their mom, it's reassuring and relaxing.

Have y'all heard the debut album by The Baseball Project? It's Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate) and Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, Minus 5) writing nerdy power pop about baseball, larded with trivia, nostalgia, and arcane references.  Golden Smog's Linda Pitmon and REM's Peter Buck round out the band. If that sounds good to you, you'll probably love it. If not, move along.

But for me (and maybe for Brainfiber and Capn, maybe Orificer, too) it's good stuff. Songs like "Ted Fucking Williams" are pretty hard for a combination rock/baseball nerd to resist. "Everybody says 'Say hey!'/Gotta give Willie a hand/But there's nothing that he can do better than I can/'Cause I'm Ted Fucking Williams!" Add in even nerdier stuff about Curt Flood and Satchel Paige and it's good times.

Department of Eagles' In Ear Park is my favorite new record of the moment. That's some good shit. The textures and sounds are mostly modern indie--Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Destroyer, Grandaddy, etc., but the song construction is fun and loopy and mixes in old American pop elements in a playful/big bag of tricks/White Album and Smile kind of way.

Highly recommend.

i used to frickin love voivod.  and breastfeeding.

(i particularly liked the earlier metal stuff. killing technology and dimension hatross  are both amazing. nothingface was the last one i cared for.  i gave up when i heard angel rat.  i hear jason newsted is in the band now.  he needs to come up with a cool name like piggy or blacky or snake.)
