This is a vile joke, but it may just make you laugh for that reason:

What is the difference between Sarah Palin's mouth and her vagina?

While on the lam from the FBI in the early seventies Weatherman fugitive Bill Ayers found refuge in a mining camp owned by Vic Atiyeh and run by his nephew George "as a kind of hostel".

"Vic Atiyeh, a Republican of Syrian descent, became the first Arab-American governor in the United States, when Oregonians elected him to the post in 1979. He served as one of the best and most popular governors in Oregon's history, from 1979 and 1987. And yes, Atiyeh the Arab, host of domestic terrorists, is now John McCain's honorary campaign chairman in Oregon." (Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair)

"There is a total disconnect between the financial hurricane hitting America and some archaeology about a sixties radical sitting with Obama on the board of the Woods Fund, a nonprofit financed by the Annenberg Foundation."

Cockburn and St. Clair point out that only six years after the "domestic terrorist" Ayers sat on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, it is currently populated by even more dangerous radicals like Doris Salomón Chagin of British Petroleum and Patrick M. Sheahan of UBS Investment Bank. McCain economic adviser Phil Gramm became a vice chairman for UBS in 2002.

An Ottawa friend, Andy (Miche's roommate) is coming down/staying here for the Drive By Truckers/Hold Steady gig coming up whenever. (Our house is an open house. Just show up. I usually have no idea when anyone's gonna be here for whatever reason -- playing/attending a gig -- more than a day or so before. Hint: Open invite to all. Any. Time.) So guy he's supposed to be going with might not show. Andy asked Jeff if he'd go if there was an extra ticket. Negatory. Then he asked if I would. Greeted by hearty laughter and a "there's no fucking way." I know some of you like either/both, but that is my biggest gig nightmare. I'm sure I could handle DBT, and maybe even like some of their stuff live, but I loathe the Hold Steady. As I may have mentioned once or a thousand times before.

(cough)

Just downloaded some Dead Confederate stuff (Wrecking Ball album, so far, but more to come) from soulseek...they're my new obsession (i.e. today's). Thanks FBP/gocat for the head's up on that one.

Somehow, in the midst of election season, this song keeps popping into my head:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/NSMLx44DqFc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/NSMLx44DqFc</a>

Good to know there is still someone out there playing in the style of old(er) Flaming Lips.

Not sure if the Delgados sound like that anymore either. I'm behind on their records. With Fridmann twirling the knobs on that one, it's a fair comparison though.

I'm hung up on that song pretty good right now though. Here's the lyrics:
This was how I broke the best
Indifference, overblown with confidence and ignorance
It all made sense
And then I watched them take the test
I believe it’s better to inflict than to attempt relief
You ask me what you need
Hate is all you need

Hate is all around find it in your heart in every waking sound
On your way to school, work or church you’ll find that it’s the only rule
Build a different world, hate will help you find what you’ve been looking for
Hate is everywhere, inside your mother’s heart and you will find it there
You ask me what you need hate is all you need

This was how I won the west
Charity, a joke that friendly cities think that we believe
Or so it seems
We kicked and punched and stabbed to death
And everyone applauded my fine actions I was overcome
You ask me what I’ve seen
Hate is all I’ve seen

Hate is in the air
Come on people feel it like you just don’t care
Everlasting hate feel it in the people where it’s warm and great
Come on hate yourself everyone here does so just enjoy yourself
Hate is everywhere, look inside your heart and you will find it there
You ask me what I mean
Hate is all I mean
BTW, I meant that as a positive, not a criticism.

No, no, I was with you. Just saying--that's an old song.
