Stereolab but it would have to be a comp containing all my favourite songs from all their records.

Ok, I give up! Only five is a fate worth than death! Could we make it say... Fifty desert Island discs?

Marquee Moon and Crappin You Negative would be on my general desert island list too, but really? Limiting it to five? Can't do it.

"Desert island Albums" and the entire list-obsession with male music enthusiasts has always been a major irritant for me personally, but that may be because of a particular relationship I had with the most-obsessed male music enthusiast that I ever did meet. I never had the urge to make a list because I am all too aware of how things change (I know I have not listened to a single Grifters album all the way through since I quit drinking...or since I broke up with W___) and this one guy I knew spoiled the entire concept for me.

If someone put a gun to my head and forced me I figure I would gravitate to ALBUM AS PIECE OF ART, instances where each component adds up to form a work greater than its elements as units. The reason for this is that it would be far too difficult to nail down albums based on individual songs. So I am thinking albums that are virtual concept albums...Eluvium's Lambent Material, Modest Mouse's Moon & Antarctica and Simple One's Two Cups For A Tale would definitely be on there...Devo's Duty Now For The Future (and maybe Q&A), Throwing Muses' University, Kristin Hersh's Hips and Makers, Kristin Hersh's Strange Angels, Kristin Hersh's Sunny Border Blue, John Parish & PJ Harvey Dance Hall at Louse Point, Siouxsie & the Banshees' Kaleidoscope, Tom Waits' Rain Dogs, Flaming Lips' Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, Neil Young's Freedom, Man or Astro-man? EEVIAC, Ciccone Youth's Whitey Album come to mind.

If I were to put a Grifters album on there it would undoubtedly be So Happy Together, because that remains the album with which I am most attached. I would never claim it was the best Grifters album, but...I can play it in my head note for note word for word blip for blip. Crappin' is cool but I believe best album goes to One Sock Missing.

See, I feel foolish for even trying and I did not even get around to proper Sonic Youth, Can, or GBV or Strapping Fieldhands or the Oblivians or Compuslive Gamblers or...

I'm just going for the hat trick.

Desert Island lps?

I guess:
The Velvet Underground
Hot Rocks
The Best of Eddie Cochrane
The first Clash album
Hank Williams greatest Hits

I'm sure I'd get sick of all of them pretty quickly and probably end up banging on coconuts with sticks most of the time.
